The budget is blown...now what?!

My birthday was on Saturday. Big 2-8!!! My wife and I went down to my hometown for the weekend to celebrate with family. She insisted that we go to the card shop and spend a few hours there hanging out. I thought that was pretty awesome. She bought a few things for me, but they had some stuff I really wanted and I ended up spending almost $500 on everything. So, my card budget for the rest of the year is gone. The question is, what do I do now?
What do you all do when the budgets gone and you're not ripping? I put a ton of emphasis on A&G this year and will probably get that stuff sorted. But, what else do you all do? Hope this makes sense. Thanks!

  • You just gotta sell. Plain and simple.

  • you got to sell your junk off and you'll have to budget better.

    2) Sell blood
    3) Sell man juice
    4) I guess you can always sell cards
  • Why not take a novel approach and trade after all trading is a lost art now. If more people traded the hobby would be cheaper and isn't trading similar to selling?

I have some "backup" stuff that I enjoy which doesn't cost me a lot of money.

I know most are card people here - but collecting board games, sports related whiskey decanters, sheet music, Toppscard comic art, and an affordable set like the 63F BB e.g. - allows me to stay in the hunt for not a lot of money.

Sorry to hear ya out of dough - me too.

So, no T3s for me for the rest of the year.

    Good luck

  • Once the money's gone, I reach down and grab a box of 1990 Score football or 1988 Topps football and rip for awhile.

    Cheap thrill.

Just like ripping vintage, but the disappointment doesn't hurt as bad ... financially speaking, of course.
  • I may be able to buy a t3 or 2 I am looking even for PSA 1's! I have about 10 more to grade which are not cheap. Finish up 55 topps AND have $$ for the only local show ..I might be in the same boat image

  • I used to spend a lot more on ebay but rarely reach my budget nowadays. It seems that the less I buy, the more I appreciate.

"Changing The Sheets" can also be fun...not the ones on the bed , the ones that hold cards. I'm kind of anal when the plastic sheets get too many finger prints on them and don't mind doing it. Actually, (carefully) handling the cards is great and something that slabs don't allow.

Come on Bro, you post how you have busted 500 in A&G yet I have yet to see a pic or made a trade. You hoarding on us?????

    LOL

  • If you go to my website you can see the pick on the Greg Louganis that I pulled. I posted recently about my Mickey Mantle pull that included a pic. I haven't had a chance to sort through my A&G stuff to offer trade. So, that might be a good starting place. image And the strong accusation that I'm hoarding is well...it's true. LOL. I'm hoarding till the end of the month. I'm doing a show in two weekends. After that, what's left will be most certainly traded. And some clarification, some of that $500 was on supplies and singles that I bought. What I meant was, that I've spent so much on A&G, that I really don't have anything left for the rest of the year.

And quite honestly, I'm terribly dissappointed that no one even said happy birthday! image Just kidding guys. I promise to have some A&G trade stuff ready within the next week or two. Thanks everyone!

WOW, What a wife you have there Guruimage

Does she also suggest you go hang out with the guys, drink beer and watch football on the weekends.... image

  • Yes...she also likes making snacks to have the guys over for the game. We made a deal when we first got married that as long as I would never be one of those guys that sits outside of the store waiting for her, she would never complain about my hobby or sports and take an interactive role in them.
