A bust half test. with a give away. Habaraca and Numisma first to complete.

fishteethfishteeth Posts: 2,264 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well I am very impressed. This took a lot less time than I thought it would. Habaraca was the first to get the answers in, followed shortly by Numisma. Edmerle and Zapp1111 were very close.
I will wait a while before posting the answers so others can attempt if they want.

Here is a little test to see if you can pick out the year and if possible the Overton of 6 diff bust halves. The catch is you only have a picture of one small patch of the coin.
I believe that all 6 of these can be identified to at least year with these small pictures.
Some are easy, a few will be a bit difficult, however, the identifying characteristic is listed in Overton for each of the pictured coins.
The winner will be the person who comes up with the correct dates first.
The first person to accomplics this can have the EF detail large cent at the bottom.
For extra credit give the variety of the large cent.
If the winner does not want it they can pick a young collector on the boards who should recieve it.

Have fun!!!!!

Her top fell down, you can see her nipple!

I have no idea about the year.

I would guess the third one is an 1832 O-112, unless it is the super-rare 1832 with the similar dash at the left of the date. Don't know the others offhand.
  • PM Sent...I have an idea on 5 of them, the last one has me confused.

Some people have gotten some of them. If no one gets them in a day or so I will start putting up more pics from the coins.

    Have fun
  • Are we supposed to post the answers here? Or PM them?

This test is not as easy as you think. (because you already know the answers)

For me, 4 of them were no-brainers. The rest of them I have to look up.

PM me with the correct answers.
I actually think this is hard, and myself would have to spend some time figuring them out
if I didn't have themin hand. A few are fairly easy and all but one will be very easy with one more picture.

You might as well get the padded envelope ready for Ed to send the Large Cent! So far I have the 1832 O.112, as I just got mine in the mail yesterday!

Hello everyone! This is my first post in 3 weeks due to my recent move to So. California

Fishteeth, that was quite a challenge! I will pm you the answers after this post. Thanks for making me unpack my books! Assuming that I am right (including the bonus question), I would like to donate the cent to a YN on this forum who I have been working with.

    Thanks for the neat contest.

  • Thank you to my supporters for having faith in my abilities.

Ran out of time tonight with 2 coins to go.

I have business meetings tomorrow AM. Therefore, if the "contest" is still open at Noon tomorrow, I will open up my Overton book and give it another go.

(After all, the large cent doesn't have my birth date on it anyway.)

    Regards,

    Ed R.

Habaraca was the first person to complete the puzzle with Numisma right behind him. They both have opted to donate the coin to a young collector.

I woke up this morning and realized:

    I'm a YN now

  • Congrats to Habaraca and Numisma right after for completing this not to easy puzzle.

The following is in no way intended to take away from the fields of glory that Habaraca and Numisma so rightfully deserve:

...but I had to temporarily turn away from the puzzle last night. It's all CBS's fault. You see, I'm in the Pacific Time Zone and I HAD to see the Big Brother finale. It didn't matter that I was recording it anyway. I had to sit there and watch it as it was being shown (in my time zone) - while eating a large bowl of non-fat ice cream, of course.

You Guys - the ones who stuck with the puzzle thru rain, sleet, snow, and life's other distractions - are so manly.

Myself? Here I am: ex farm boy, veteran, grandpa, etc. and I HAD to watch Big Brother. Sometimes, I'll tell you, I'm such a girl!!!

Habaraca: I know that you chose to give the Large Cent to a YN. ...but you should still wear a gold star today and tell your wife that you're leaving at least one toilet lid up ALL day. 'cause you're the MAN !!!!

To Everybody: Have a Great Day!

    Regards,

    Ed R.

I have been looking for that first variety in the same late die state! For the CBH's I would need to drag out the brick. Cool contest!

  • Can someone please tell me what variety had the die chip in the breasts? I searched forever and couldn't find that one!

  • Speety:

You claim: "I have searched forever..."

Forever is a long time. Aren't you still young. You have lot's of time left.

The longer and harder you look, the easier it will be for you to remember. You might even remember it forever.

But if we give you the answer, you may not remember it next week.

    Regards,

    Ed R.
  • Ed...don't worry i'll still have plenty of questions for you! image I remembered seeing that one many times but drew a blank on it last night.

And forever may have been a 'little' overstatement, about an hour and a half would be closer. image
