Notre Dame QB

I don't necessarily follow Notre Dame football so obviously I don't know the whole story.

But it seems to me this guy is wimping out. If Clausen stays healthy obviously he is the man for the job. But who's to say that Clausen whose already had injury problems wouldn't get hurt again giving this guy a chance to prove himself? What team would want anyone that didn't at least stick it out for a little longer?

Considering how things have went to this point, he probably could have been the starter as something needs to change at ND right now. It may not necessarily be all of Clausens fault, but let's just say he hasn't done a lot either.

Jones is a crying baby. Glad he left. Notre Dame does not need a quitter.

Maybe he's an opportunist... Maybe he got word he wasn't going to play much and figured he might as well make the best of his final year and go to start somewhere else. I don't think it's such a poor decision now considering their year to this point. It's not like he could right the ship by himself at ND this year.

  • Dirtmonkey,

I agree with your statement if he just had one year left it might be different.

But from how I read the article he's saying he'd have three years of eligibility left if he transferred.

The ND football website lists him as a Sophomore.

My bad, thought he was older. Actually though, that makes even more sense to me then. Clausen pretty much had to start soon because of his recruit status (#1 QB). It's generally the nature of the best, so to speak. He had to know that his future with ND was going to be in question for the rest of his time there. Everytime he made a single mistake, people would be crying for Clausen to come in.
I respect a guy who wants to get the most out of his career. Many just sit tight and miss the opportunities available to them elsewhere.

What did Jones expect when he came to Notre Dame. Did he expect he did not have to fight for a starting job while he's there. Now he is going to NIU and I'am sure he thinks he will be the starting QB next year. If he is not then what? Does he go somewhere else again. Weis said he planned on using Jones in the Michigan game, if Clausen was struggling. Jones decided to skip the bus trip and flee town.

I suspect he felt he was going to have to fight for a job, but maybe he felt he wasn't getting a fair opportunity. Not sure, I wasn't there. Again, if you don't see opportunity in front of you, it's time to look elsewhere.

He made a good decision for himself. Next year Duane Crist will be on campus and he is considered by many as the top QB coming out of high school this year. He is one of 19 kids that Charlie has recruited this year and undoubtedly one of the best classes in ND recent history. If Jones plays at the next level it won't be at QB. Meanwhile Charlie's college coaching education continues, maybe he fill figure out how to win a couple games this year. image

If Clausen does not start next year, he should transfer to NIU.
  • I'd like to have him (Clausen) down here in Knoxville. His two older brothers played here, they didn't make it pro and I know a lot of fans didn't like them. But Jimmy boy is supposed to be the best of the lot and David Cutcliffe (who coached Peyton and Eli) could help him reach his potential. Of course Weis has a pretty good track record of his own. So I guess only time will tell.

  • He wanted to be on a superior team.

  • NOTRE DAME - Sep 1 Georgia Tech Lost 3-33
    Sep 8 @Penn St. Lost 10-31
    Sep 15 @Michigan Lost 0-38

    TENNESSEE -Sep 1 @California Lost 31-45
Sep 8 Southern Miss Won 39-19
    Sep 15 @Florida Lost 20-59

I admit, Tennesse has had it handed to them twice, and I predict that if they lose two or more Fulmer will be out. But I don't think ND is a superior team. Obviously more of a legacy. But just looking at this year the Vols have played tougher competition so far.

  • I meant that Northern Illinois is superior to Notre Dame.

And of course if you had college age kids you would want them to go to NIU to play. image Or for that matter for the better education. Puhlease. image

Both teams are 0-3. Notre Dame has a little tougher schedule.

ND will have a tough year... but its only one season... they still have a tradition of excellence

Yeah, I'd want my kid to look like a fool every weekend in front of the country on the Notre Dame network (NBC).

At least NIU hasn't been lit up like a Christmas Tree every game.
