So much for "icing the kicker"...

Way to go, Andy.

I've always thought "icing the kicker" was a stupid thing to do to NFL-caliber kickers, and this just adds ammo.

I think Mike Shanahan might disagree with you on this one.

Come on. That was a 52-yarder, which isn't a high-percentage kick, "iced" or not. And that came in a situation where the offense had no possible reason to reconsider their decision to kick.

did you see the second kick Janikowski hit? another foot right and he could have made that kick from 65 yards or more. What does it hurt anyway, it allows your defense more rest, and if it only ever works one time it was worth doing.
  • Icing the kicker is the most retarded thing a coach does.

What Shanahan did, by the way, is straight BS. He didn't get the TO called in time.

Yes, I saw it. It's not just about distance; it's also about angle. On an extra point you can mis-hit the ball by 15 degrees off to the left or right of the center line and make the kick. From 50 yards, you need to be accurate within 2-3 degrees -- basic trigonometry. There's MUCH less margin from error in pushing the ball off to one side regardless of the leg strength.

As for what it could have hurt? What if he missed the first kick and made the second?
