Opinions: Will PCGS Grade or Body Bag this 1999 AM Wide Lincoln Cent ?

I have recently acquired a 1999 Wide AM Lincoln Cent that has some contact marks on the rim of the coin and also has some spots on the surface of the coin as well. I am concerned about what PCGS might allow regarding rim marks before they consider the mark to be a rim dent or rim nick disqualifying the coin from being encapsulated. I am also concerned about what results the spotting may cause in regards to PCGS returning it without encapsulation. I am on day two (2) of a seven (7) day return policy, and need to accurately assess the PCGS worthiness of the coin to decide whether to return it or not. Please view photos included and provide feedback if you have a comment to share. Also, any grade prediction if you feel that it would not get Body Bagged.

Thanks so much. Yachtsman

P.S. Please disregard last photo.

I don't think the rim nicks are big enough to cause it to be bodybagged.

I do think that it will grade 62-63RD, maybe 64, depends how bad the spotting is in hand...

I think it will grade. The green spot does bother me a bit, but the rim marks are fine and common. Can the green spot be removed with acetone?

lots of carbon spots and evidence of minor circulation. I have one of two AU58's, unless the pop guide changed at PCGS since I last checked. It looks good enough for that grade.

UNC all the way. I made several of the 67's. This coin is a no doubt 63-4.

Wow, you did well. I saw the obverse photo and from the sheer number of dark spots I never would have guessed higher than 64RD.

Ok after looking at the result, it is clear that the spotting is not as bad in person as it looks in your photo. Nice score!

  • Hello coinman420,
I would have been in my glory if only I could have uncovered this one in a search, but an ebay auction was my only conquest. However, I am extremely pleased with the PCGS results. I purchased it from someone who stated that they found it while roll searching about a year ago. I guess there are a few still floating around out there.
