Are the Phillies just teasing us?

I mean, what is this? Well, besides domination of the Mets! We are now 3 and a half back in the East and one in a half in the
wild card, but I really don't think San Diego is going to lose another game and I don't think anyone else can beat the Mets. So
where does this leave us? The best team out of the any in the East or Central! Three guys having MVP years with our best
pitcher on ice?
Its clear the Phillies are better than the Mets, but that doesn't get us into the playoffs. It looks like we are going to need some help
and that help is not there. Could this be another almost season? I mean, what a freaking waste of a few career years.
I've been watching closely this race, and the Phils are getting NO help. It's going to be real hard watching at least 2 teams worse
than the Phillies, in the playoffs!

But of course it ain't over yet - we're due for a few breaks and hopefully this season it'll happen in the next few weeks. Nobody deserves it more than Phillies fans.
yup.
That is what I was thinking when they started the season. They will make an August run at both the division and WC spot, then finish within 2 games of each.
The Mets stink, but they will make it. The Phillies will not.
but i would love to see them make a run
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

<< <i>the Phillies would go nowhere in the playoffs. Crappy starters. Is Cole Hamels even going to pitch again this season? >>
The 2006 st. louis cardinals would like to disagree with you. The Cards' staff ERA last year wasn't much different than the Phils' this year, similar numbers in BAA as well.
No reason the Phils couldn't be successful in the playoffs - we already know they own the Mets.
Exactly. The Mets are playing with the luxury of a cushion, while the Sillies must win every game to even have a shot at the postseason. The better team will be the one that wins the division, as in case Steve and Kevin aren't aware, it's total wins and losses that we use to gauge which team is the better of the two. The Sillies have played the Marlins and nats just as many times as the Mets this year. We can't help it if you guys can't get over that hump to catch us on top of the East!

no offense, but dont factor in that "luxury of the cushion" crap, I live in the area and listen to 660am daily, every met was saying how this was a statement series and they were going to kick the phillies asses, and how lucky the phillies were to even beat them a few times... and every time the mets choke and lose and play like chit. will they win the east? most probably. will they win a series? maybe. win 2? no way. win 3 ?!?!? absolutely not.
the mets have proven every time they MUST win. they choke and lose, only to make up games against the pirates and marlins of the world.
they are a mediocre team in a crappy league.
this was dumb. mets maned up and swept the braves at turner feild in a must win situation. do you remember that?
that aside i will not lie. mets need to wake up lead is 2.5 3 in lose column. im sorry i am a huge mets fan. but the cushion is gone. and there is no cushion in the wildcard either.
phillies got hamles back tomorow should be even more of a lift for them. i really do believe mets will win next 4 games. hopefully phils go 2-2 over that and its back to 4.5 and 5 in lose column. and that would pretty much wrap it up..
but yeah im one mets fan that is getting nervous that this thing could slip away. plus with the bullpen of the mets phillies braves etc.. i dont see a world series win this year. but hey you never no.
ohh and stevek 1420 southflphilly fan... how bout them cowboys
the mets have proven every time they MUST win
I'm sure the Mets wanted to beat the Phillies, but at the end of the day, win or lose, they are still in first place with a decent lead with only a dozen games remaining. Players will always say the things they say about "making a statement," but the urgency to win right now is more so on the Phillies side of the field, no question. Bottom line is the Mets have won when they needed to, and have been in first place since the beginning of the season. Every time they "needed" a win, they've gotten it. Hard to claim otherwise when a team goes wire to wire as the Mets should wind up doing.
My main concern with the Mets is their bullpen, which has been downright awful of late. I'm hoping they move Maine to the bullpen come playoff time when they go to a 4-man rotation. I have to admit it's hard to envision them having success in the playoffs with the bullpen they way it is now.

I would jinx whatever I said, Nats killing the Mets tonight....looks like this one is going to go down to the wire!

ohh well 2.5 game lead. but the phillies pen is horrid against every team but the mets. gonna need some help from the cards and dare do i say braves. god please dont have me wanting the braves to win next week. i feel dirty already.
Thats the sound of the Mets playoff door closing.

If the Phillies get into the playoffs, there is no doubt in my mind they win the World Series.
I think you forgot that the Phillies will have to play an American league team to win the WS. And if Hamels doesn't come back you'll be lucky to win one game

We'll most likely be playing Boston which is fine with me. However I'd love to play the Yankees and get payback for the 1950 World Series. I wasn't even born yet but of course I've read about it - maybe Grote15 may have watched it as I think he was around 40 or 50 years old when that World Series took place.
1950, a wonderul year, I remember it well, I had just bought my house in Levittown, Long Island!
I tried to get tickets for that Series, but I couldn't get the ol' Studebaker started! Damn!

If anyone couldn't get their Studebakers started by game 4 then they didn't see any of that World Series. There of course was no game 5. In all fairness to the "Whiz Kids" the Yankees were crushing all the NL teams in the World Series around that time.
