1830 Capped Bust Half Photo

Here's my newp CBH, and looking to attribute. Is this a Small 0, O.102? Or is it a 103? I see the top of E in UNITED is lower than the T, but don't see the small sharp spike protruding from feather below juncture of right wing with body. The 0 in 50 looks more like the 102. A2 looks recut, and C in AMERICA looks punched low. Looks like the stand of 5 may be recut, too. Any other opinions and pictures of a O.102 or O.103? Thanks in advance. Bob

It looks to be a O-103 from the first S in STATES being higher and wider.

    Nice coin, congratsimage
  • Its an O-103 beyond a reasonable doubt.

Not only do the star to dentil relationships give it away on the obverse, but look at the reverse.

Hold the loupe over the plate coin's reverse and compare the following to your coin:

    (1) Compare the upper most left part of the upper left serif of the first T in STATES to the dentils above.

    (2) Next, do the same with the second T in STATES.

    (3) Then do the same with the F in OF.

    Yep, it's the O-103, R1.

    Regards,

    Ed R.
