Shops in San Antonio?

I'll be in downtown San Antonio for a few days next week. Any recommendations on how to kill an hour or so looking at coins at lunch?

Royalty coins is right where you are, on Commerce street in downtown...their building is easy to spot...it's very old and has a round front to it. Alamo Heights coins is another one...I don't know their address, but they are in north San Antonio...I'm not a big fan of theirs, but they've been around since I started collecting as a kid.

John I know theres a shop downtown but I haven't been to it as I usually go to one on the north end of town called Lone Star Coins.
I think the name is Royal Coins or Royalty or something like that. You might send Barndog a PM and ask him. He knows the area better than me.

downtown your only real choice is "Royalty Coins" (they sell on ebay under the same name, or a close facsimile thereof). They have tons of coins, way more than are on display in the small showroom. Ask to see something if you don't spot something you like on the floor. If you can get North of town a bit, stop by Lonestar Coins on I-281 South (next to Taco Cabana and Hest Fitness). Best coin shop for many miles around.

Thanks for the info. I have three lunch hours, so that make 2 coin shops and one trip to Taco Taco Cafe. I just checked Lone Star Coins' website and they're not open Sunday. Pity, as that's when I fly in.

whatever you do, DON'T eat Mexican food at Rita's (or something like that) on the Riverwalk. Old El Paso mixed with New Alpo is better.

My strategy for where to eat has the following rules:

1. Eschew large chains
2. Nothing visible from a tourist location, as it will have some combination of high price and low quality. The harder to find, the better.
3. Preferably not on a corner.

The shop advice is on the mark. Alamo Heights normally had little to no slabbed materials. Lots of junk boxes and foreign. And if you like WWII Uniform items, talk to the guy with the long white hair.

Eating.....
- Hard Rock Cafe is always a nice choice.
- A trip to the top of the (Insert name of San Antonio TOwer here). The food is OK, the view is great.
