18th century mini-type set (post your 18th century coins here)

Amongst the coins that I am keeping are an 18th century 3-coin type set (that is, one coin each of silver, copper, and gold). Such a pursuit might be worthy of consideration for a somewhat serious collector to have a taste of 18th century numismatics, without the high price tag of a complete type set. Of course, any way you slice it, the gold coin is the most expensive one in circulated grades, unless you intentionally choose a better date or high demand or high-grade silver or copper coin. Here's what my 18th century mini-type set would look like:

I have actually replaced the 1798 half eagle for an AU 1799 half eagle, but I do not yet have a photo of the latter. Feel free to post your 18th century coins here.

    I can't find my 1795 FH1/2 right now.

I apologize up-front for tarnishing this thread with such a crappy coin, but it's all I have right now image

I've got no 18th Century coins but I do have this 18th century American currency. It does share the same design as a rather famous 18th century American coin.

  • Those are amazing coins!

Glad you decided not to sell them.

Sorry, all I have is an avatar pic of the 1794 cent from my Holey Coin Vest date set.

I could fill this thread with 18th century Darkside, since you didn't specifically exclude those, but I won't do that. image

Some holey 1790s cents are all I have right now in the US material. Had a rather nasty cleaned AG 1798 cent (unholed), but sold it.

The goldie at the top of the page is lovely. Somehow it has much more character than the MS dreamcoins one sees pictures of.

That is a very cool coin. Could be interesting to use in a Rorschach inkblot test!

I sold my 18th cent type set, piece by piece over the last year. I was going to post it, but I must have deleted the page. Oh well... At least you posted one of my ex-coins.

Actually, two of the coins are ex-Barry: the dime and the half eagle. image

I forgot about the dime. Didn't recognize it with the PCGS photo...
  • Jrocco's flowing hair half. Note the recut date and the 3 leaves under the eagle's wing on the right side of the coin. Very rare coin!!

Here's mine. Same recut date obverse, but only 2 leaves under the eagle wing. Scarce, but not rare like the coin above. Also in more mangey shape, but still an interesting coin to have.
