Second Edition of the Hibler-Kappen So-Called Dollar Book

Well, publication of the long awaited Second Edition of the book So-Called Dollars by Hibler and Kappen is just around the corner. As previously mentioned, we expect to be distributing by January 2008. Two versions will be published; a black & white edition with color plates, and a full color edition. The B&W version is $49.50 plus shipping and the Limited Edition version is $150. We currently plan to print only 150 full color copies so it is, in fact, limited edition.
It's been 44 years since the first edition was published. This edition has updated information, changed sizes to millimeters, added a lot more pictures, new metal varieties, new mulings, and some new medals. The purpose of this book was not to be a fully complete listing of all SCDs. There are so many that keep popping up that we really wanted to get a revised edition out on the market and provide a center clearinghouse for listing new medals and new metal varieties.
The minute the book comes out, there will be parts that need updating. We know that. Nothing will be wrong, just not as complete as we want it to be. It's really hard to change and update information that hasn't been touched in 44 years. We've done this project in about a year from the first mention of doing this book. I can envision the book doubling in size in the future. A new or modified numbering system will need to be implemented to incorporate all of the new medals. We're already discussing how that can be done.
The main people involved are:
Tom Hoffman - myself
Jonathan Brecher - jonathanb
Dave Hayes - dealmakr
John Dean - cadmanco
Many thanks go out to everyone that has helped provide information and pictures to make this book more useful. This book is really a compilation of work by collectors for collectors and that's what makes this book great.
