I finally added another Shield Nickel...

...as a result of attending the 45th Suburban Detroit Coin Show at the Holiday Inn on Telegraph Road in Southfield.
I walked in and made a quick pass around to see if there was much of interest to me. My objective for the show was very limited: to add one AU Shield Nickel to my date set. Things weren't looking good until I came to the Jade Rare Coins table and spotted a a raw, original and well struck 1876 AU50 in the case. I purchased the coin...my first coin purchase in about three months.
The show has about 50 tables (perhaps 30 dealers.) Attendance was sparce but will hopefully pick up on Saturday, the show's final day. Some dealers I expected to see weren't there. There was quite a mix of US material, much of it raw, but plenty of slabs as well. I spotted more ICG slabs than I have seen in quite awhile. There were also a lot of SEGS slabs. This isn't surprising since Larry Briggs has a table at the show and probably knows many of the dealers well. There were far fewer ANACS slabs than I expected to see.
The show is worth a look if you are within driving distance. Saturday hours are 9-4, but I wouldn't advise arriving late in the day.

All glory is fleeting.
