1st - image to the Darkside (greyside for us Canadian collectors)

2nd - nice token and great pictures

3rd - I would catalogue it as Charlton NS1D2, Breton 871: Nova Scotia 1/2d token mintage 800,000. Your variety is the long right ribbon and I would grade it VF+ for the type. Charltons' list the value as VF20 C$25, EF40 C$65.

As Big Dave has alluded to, there were many imitation issues (contemporary conterfeits). The genuine pieces weigh 8.0-8.6 grams, the heaviest of the imitations weighs 7.5 grams but typically between 5.8 - 7.0 g. Visually there are 3 diagnostics to watch for on the imitations: reverse the thistle is poorly rendered (design looks thin or poorly struck), obverse the hair forelocks touch the letter F or O, obverse the base of the letter P does not come close the the "notch" in the collar fabric.
