Results from $230 In Kennedy Half Dollars

I went to a bank in the town that I grew up in (Coldwater, Kansas) and bought all that they had in Kennedy Halves $230.

My results were as follows (2) 1964, (1) 1966, (2) 1967, (3) 1968-D, (1) 1974-D DDO (it's only in about XF)

I was hoping for better results but still not bad. I was looking for missing initials coins and I found (4) 1972-D that have part of the G in FG left. It looks like a J. I don't know if these would be worth anything. I am going to continue to look for varieties with these coins.

Sounds like someone is cashing in rolls in Coldwater, which I see from my map is only about 10 miles south of Greensburg. I drove through Greensberg this summer on my way to Liberal, KS and took these shots. I've never seen a whole town wiped out. Most of the tree stumps in the pictures were once full-sized trees, and there were *no* houses left in town. Even when I was 2 miles out of town, the garage doors had been pushed in.

    How's the recovery going?

Yeah I was living in Coldwater with my Mother at the time that Greensburg got hit. It missed Coldwater with the path being 8-9 miles west of Coldwater. Greensburg is around 23 miles North of Coldwater. I know quite a few people from there. The sad thing is, even if they rebuild the town, the character will be gone. There was buildings from 1880's that were totally wiped out. One cool thing about Greensburg was that the businesses used $2 bills quite a lot (especially the bar!!). Greensburg is famous for it's giant meteorite and it "World's Largest Handdug Well". The well was pretty cool and I remember the last time that I visited it, the gift shop had a display of the coins that divers recovered form the bottom of the well. My grandpa told me once that my greatgrandfather helped to build it in the 1880's I think.

My brother-in-law used to be a manger at the only grocery store in Coldwater and he called me one time and told me to come to the store. Someone had used rolls of Walkers to make a purchase. I think that there were about 50 Walker in all (mostly 40's) that were around VF-XF.
He got them for face!!! The best that I ever did was when my mom was working at the grocery store as a checker and she called me at work and I stopped by after work. She noticed that when she broke open a roll of dimes that they were different than usual. It turned out to be a roll of Roosies. I got them for face. Some elderly lady had used them to make a purchase without ever realizing that they were 90% silver.

There is still silver out there, a lot of it is just being at the right place at the right time.

The Greensburg recovery is slow going. A lot of peple have moved to other places. Coldwater has seen a boom in economy! You cannnot find a house for sale or rent in Coldwater. I passed through there Tuesday and it still makes me shake my head.
