I noticed that too. A remarkable achievement to say the least. Since your his Son, I would ask Dad for the culls from his sets that are taking up storage space as he upgrades Congrats HD!!!

This happened before. I think that it is a PCGS glitch. He keeps upgrading like a madman, but PCGS is calculating the Finest Set grade wrong. I know that on the MS Modern the Jefferson in MS-68FS is unique, and the Corso Jefferson collection owns it, so that's one point that High will have to wait for.

for the modern type proof set.. how do you know which coins give you a better rated set according to pcgs? is there some definition somewhere which coins are more awesome then others?

Planning to re-enter the Top Ten in 1900-present Modern Type, myself, if the FUN show purchases and the PCGS submission shape up the way I want. I've submitted a 1901 $10 Liberty (formerly ANACS MS63), two different Ikes (both formerly PR69 DCAM, one was NGC and one ICG), plus an 1827 Bust half that is EF45 but 90% likely to bodybag for being cleaned 20 years ago and maybe having a rim bump or hairline too many, but I got the coin as a new collector in '77 and it's sentimental. I really don't care if the Bust Half bodybags or not- we'll call it an experiment. I broke all coins out of their old holders before submitting them, just to give them a fair shot. At FUN I hope to find one or more of the following in MS62+ (my budget will permit one, two if I'm lucky and shop well):

-Barber half
-$2.50 Liberty
-$5.00 Indian
-$20.00 Saint w/motto (MS64 would be nice)

BTW, I don't think HD is playing in the Copper/Nickel/Silver set? (of course, why would he need to, with the "Big One"?)

High isn't playing in the CSN set, although he would win that category as well. Good luck at the FUN show. I have a couple of bids on Heritage auctions, but I don't think that I'll win anything that will improve my Modern set this time around.

Right now the set is not weighted, so for each category, you are just trying to find the highest coin grade regardless of date. For most of the categories, that is PR-70DC, although a few are only known in 68 or 69DC.

Keith I wish some of the PCGS 1907 No Motto Indians Eagles Heritage has up for auction had a buy it now on them. They have one that is MS62 for $700.00 that is buy it now but it is way too banged up for me. I think my AU58 1908 Motto looks way better than this MS62.

Bill- I just paid $800 plus shipping for my MS62 1907 NM $10 Indian (also from Heritage). I allowed myself a $700 budget but ended up being hastily outbid, so I pulled a tidy last-minute snipe on it, exceeding my budget by $100. I did not want to let it pass me by, as MS62 is the bottom line for my set, and I can forget about ever affording an MS63 for that type. So it had to be a 1907 and an MS62. A rather narrow window! I'm very pleased to have that hole filled, as you can imagine. The coin has a noticeable slide mark on the cheek which is probably why it graded as it did, but is gorgeous otherwise! Now, if I can just get an MS62 $5 Indian this weekend...

I remember when there were twenty slots on the Registry between us. The gap has narrowed quite a bit! Perhaps I can look at you eye-to-eye in the near future. Until then, I guess I'm still a little brother.

PS- just checked out the coin you linked to. Maybe you are more selective than I am, but at $700, I would jump on that with both feet! Remember how little Heritage's imaging flatters the coins-they all seem to look dull in the pics. I'll bet that one is a beaut, and if I could go back in time I almost certainly would have bought it instead of the one I have (though I'm happy to have that).

LM the 1908 Motto in my set in only an AU53 but no dings at all. I paid $375.00 for it raw and had it slabbed myself. The MS62 on heritage I linked too has alot of dings ( Look at it with the larger picture heritage provides ). I only need to finish the gold to complete my set and I am going to take my time with the rest of it. I too remember looking down at your set, now I amlooking over my shoulder with you breathing down my neck. You will pass me soon.
