The Japanese cash coin (partially covered by a 1 cent, in a row beginning with a George VI item), may very well be up to 150 years older than that.

Excellent pics! Is the color off a little? It looks a little brassy or golden.
Very nice though! How long have you been at it with the new camera?

I dunno... that sucker looks gilt to me. image
  • Gilt it is! And yes I'm a newbie on the photography. My wife has thia awesome Nikon Coolpix 8700 8MP camera she uses in our virtual tour home business (you know, those 360 degree images you see on real estate sites). so I've been playing around with it and these are my first attempts. I'm still learning about white balance and all that. Does my novice status show?image

Not really. Your pictures are quite good. You look like you know how to
    use Photoshop as well.
Could you take a picture of the coin in the lower left corner of your picture
that has a swastika on it? I don't recognize it.

    Thanks,
    Big Dave

I think it is a Rexall drug store token with a good luck symbol on it. Many store tokens used that symbol in the teens. The symbol can be found all through history including many Native American cultures and is still used by Hindus and Buda’s (sp)? It was used by the boy scouts up until WWII when it was inverted by the Nazi party. There are still many buildings standing in the US built before WWII that have the good luck symbol built in brick at the entrances and on the floors. It is one symbol that has been used by people on all inhabited continents to symbolize good luck, though post WWII it has declined in use in most cultures to be almost extinct now. Amazing to think thousands of years of history can be irrevocably altered in just a decades time by the shear horror visited on the world in that time.
