My wantlist & references
The only other things I can read are: the number 4 at the top, and the word for river, at the bottom of the other side's central area; and 50 (4th and fifth characters right to left) at the bottom of that side.
(He probably didn't need it!)

<< <i>I bet mrpotatoheadd didn't have two flights of stairs to run down to get his Krause!
Nope- they're sitting right next to me- I don't even have to get out of my chair.
It's not in my Krause book. Hmmm... Do you suppose they could have omitted it?

Just in case anyone is interested, the legends read as follows:
First image: "First year of the Republic of China." This is indeed 1912. The big character in the middle is "han," the dominant ethnic group in China. Keep in mind that a Manchu dynasty had just been overthrown and there was an anti-Manchu Chinese (Han) nationalist movement. This is one of the reasons I like this coin. Lots of politics and history.
Second image: "Produced by the Military Government." There was no regular functioning central government in control of the entire country at the time. This coin was minted in a transitional period. The four characters in the middle read, "Sichuan copper currency," so this is was a provincial issue. The arrangement of the four characters is the same as that on the old cast coinage and on the milled coins of the final years of the empire. The bottom reads, "Equal to 50 wen (cash)."
I know this is a common coin but it is VERY COOL.
<< <i>Which Krause are you looking in? It's in my 20th century 2008, 2007, 2005 and 2000 (that last one was downstairs...). >>
2006, of course...
