WHOA WHOA WHOA! SHEEEEEESH Jealousy rears its ugly head! Lets see if in fact the Pats are guilty first and then talk about punishment, even if they are guilty dont think for a second other NFL teams wouldnt attempt to do this if they got a chance.

It's kind of off the wall a little bit, but in college if you get caught cheating they can keep you from being "bowl eligible". If there's indisputable proof that they were cheating the NFL should make the Patriots "playoff ineligible" for one year. Don't hurt their future by taking their future draft picks, just don't let them in the playoffs this year.

Anything else gives them a chance to be Champions and Cheaters in the same season and that isn't good.

You got to be kidding me! Banning them from the playoffs? This is going to turn into a Barry Bonds type hunt isnt it? Barry CHEATED Blah Blah Blah... Meanwhile 80% of Pro athletes use some type of hgh or whatever but ban him from baseball LOL Now this! I bet a bunch of NFL teams are guilty of at least trying to grab opposing teams signals but BAN THE PATS FROM THE PLAYOFFS!!!!

You guys crack me up! image

nah they aint getting baned from playoffs. but i could see the draft picks and fines. and bill should get like a 4 game suspension also.

Come on, this isn't about 'jealousy', its about the Pats CHEATING.

Infinite amounts of talent and they resort to this bush league BS?

I don't think a playoff ban in pro sports is a good idea. Because of the draft system, a team could just purposely go 0-16 to get the top draft pick next year. They would have nothing to play for. They could even annouce that they are going to do that and most people would understand why.
  • ziggy29ziggy29 Posts: 18,668 ✭✭✭
Take a draft pick or two. Maybe a 3rd and a 5th rounder or something like that.
  • Heard reports of as much as a second rounder.

Love the 'jealousy' angle some tried to pull here - moronic.

YOU are the only moron here. Try to remember that you ignorant P.O.S
  • hahah

Patsies are cheaters...I wonder how many other teams they've pulled this crap with. They were caught doing it against GB last year...and I am sure they've done it plenty of other times.

No wonder they had such an advantage over the Jets - they were CHEATING!!!
  • One, bonds has not been proven to have used steroids. The pats have been found guilty of cheating and the league is considering punishment. Second, it's called the 'steroid era' for a reason, because an overwhelming majority of players used them - unlike the video scandal, which seems to be an isolated incident.

But perk needs to just man up and admit that his team cheated - not pull this whole 'you're just jealous!' crap.

Truly bush league by the Patsies. I guess the heat was on to make Moss look like he was worth all the money. This was
a good way to do it. I agree, forfeit the game and lose all draft picks next year. What a bunch of freaking losers the patises
are! They probably have some cameras in the cheerleading locker room too..maybe even the girls room too!

Here we go with Kevin chiming in, the funny thing is that you could give the Bucs all of the Offensive and defensive plays of the opposing team and they would still find away to lose, Kevin please stand down... you dont have much room to be throwing stones at my Pats especially when your Team is mired in such a pathetic state the past few years.

Baseball- I respect you and your take on this no matter if I disagree with you or not.

Truly a stupid move by the Pats -- what the hell was Belechick thinking?. Anything less than a forfeit really would be a slap on the wrist.
  • MorgothMorgoth Posts: 3,950 ✭✭✭
Any draft pick lower than a 2nd round would be a joke since only their 1st and 2nd rounders made the team this year. They are so stacked that their later picks are not really needed at this point. I say suspend Belechick for 4 games and take away their 2nd and 3rd round draft picks.

Cheating will continue in any sport if the penalties are not stiff enuff

look at Nascar, u get caught cheating & all u get is a small fine & maybe a loss of a few points, that's why cheating continues

Maybe the Patriots coach shud get a 1 yr suspension?
not the slap on the wrist penalties
that wud send a message to all
  • It's getting even worse for the Patriots. Now I'm reading that an ESPN report that says the league is reviewing a possible violation into the number of radio frequencies the Patriots were using during Sunday's game, and that the team did not have a satisfactory explanation regarding their communications setup.

Besides watching and taping the coaches THEY WERE LISTENING IN!!!!!

    Are you frucking kidding me?

It's like Watergate. Maybe Nixon's people did what all the other politicians were doing, but it was Nixon's people who were caught and they -- from Nixon on down -- were going to be held up as an example of what happens when you're caught.

Still, "everyone else is doing it" isn't much of an excuse when you know something is wrong. Sort of like steroids in baseball, I guess, where players feel like they have to in order to "stay competitive" with everyone else.

That would be really harsh. I guess if the NFL REALLY wanted to send a message like the NCAA did to SMU football a couple decades ago, I can see it...but playoff ineligibility AND loss of a #1 is awfully draconian.

Agreed -- I think a forfeit or high draft pick is about as sever they will get for this "first offense". The Pats are a huge money maker for the NFL, so they do not want to kill the golden goose. Still, as a Pats fan, this puts a HUGE damper on my enthusiasm for the team this year. image

<< <i>If you dont think every team doesnt do exactly the same thing, your fools. >>

Until another team is accused of video taping, I disagree. Other teams try to steal signs, hence coaches covering their mouths when they talk. However, none that I'm aware of have actually resorted to Imax film with full surround sound to steal coaches signs. That goes far beyond anything I've heard.

It's similar to the difference in baseball between a runner at second base peaking in at the catcher's signs vs a team having a spy in the stands video taping every sign and relaying the signals to the bench. No wonder the Jets didn't touch Brady after having harrassed him over and over in last year's games.

I also like Belicheck's comment about his 'misinterpretation of the rules'. You mean you can't video tape the defensive coach's signals and steal RF audio from them? I wouldn't be surprised if they knew exactly every defensive set the Jets had before every play. I haven't checked but I also wouldn't be surprised if the Pats signed a scrub Jet player to their practice squad to find out the Jets' defensive playbook. Or maybe they stole a copy of the playbook. I think they should have to forfeit that game.
  • Fine 'em, and get on with it. Make them ineligible for the playoffs, no matter how many games they win.

Funny thing is, Randy Moss is trying to mature and be a better player. image Great start, huh? I know he didn't tape anybody, it just seems like he's always around trouble (even when it's not his fault).
"This is a stick-up, gimme all your money...no, just your coins..."

Awww Joey, go back to wishing the glory days of the Bucs were back... since comments like this simply prove the fool that you are image

The Pats will probably have a couple draft picks taken away.

Other things like them signing a scrub player to get an upper hand on a team... every team does it. When a team signs anyone... of course they are going to get as much info out of them as possible.

Anyways, its up to the league to decide now.

  • << <i>"Everybody in this league is trying to find a way to get away with something that creates an advantage," Tampa Bay QB Jeff Garcia says. >>

Unfortunately, the Pats taped it... otherwise it would have been completely legal. Oh well, on to the leagues decision, and next weeks game image

I agree that that is not uncommon. However, couple that with the fact they were recording the play calling and it takes it to a whole new level. If they knew all the plays and then also stole every play call, then that would mean they knew exactly what alignment the defense was using before every play.

Yet you continue to try to verbally spar with me. If you don't care about what I say, why waste your time responding? Absolutely hilarious.

Let's address the situation at hand: the patriots CHEATED, got CAUGHT, and are going to lose multiple draft picks as a result. I love it.

  • One NY sports writer said that the game should be played over in December. I think that is ridiculous. Why should the Jets have to play a 17 game regular season because the Patriots are cheats? Why should the Jets be subjected to the additional physicality of another game? They already had the QB hurt as a result of the cheat game. For all we know New England listened in on that play and stunted or blitzed the right way which resulted in his getting hurt. I say no. If the league is going to get this right then make NE forfeit the game. Wipe out all the stats for that day. Final score Jets 1, Cheatriots 0.

Well I have time to take care of this now rather than later...

First off, I have read up on this incident and I guess it is clear the Patriots are guilty, it is embaressing. We will take our medicine and move on. However we will still be a dominant force and go on a rampage through the rest of the season unlike the majority of the pathetic teams ( IE: The YUCS ) in the league.

AX- Im not trying to verbally spar with you just trying to get my point across to you that you are an ignorant fire-starter here. What I find hilarious is your never ending line of "If you dont care about what I say, why waste your time responding" thing image You have used that on COUNTLESS people here- Time to get a new defense for your fat mouth image Throw something back at me to be fair and this is as far as I will go on this thread.

To everyone else, my apoligies for my Pats doing this, again its embaressing even though I dont believe it made a huge difference in the outcome of the game, I may be wrong but IMO I think we are a better team either way.

I use it because it's true. If I am indeed such a waste of your time, then why waste it responding to me? It's quite simple...stop responding if you find my posts so annoying and such a waste of time. I think your continuing to respond speaks far more about YOU than it does ME.

If it didn't make a huge difference in the game then they wouldn't have done it. I think that multiple draft picks and a substantial monetary fine are in order. What they did is akin to the referee betting on games - directly affecting the outcome of games and the integrity of the sport! Sit the coach at least a game as well.
  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭✭✭
It will be interesting how this impacts the Patriots. What if they start playing poorly now? I doubt that will happen but it will beg the question of how good they really are. There were accusations last season, so this apparently isn't the first time they've filmed the defensive play calls.

One thing is for certain, opposing teams will be very careful with protecting their plays and the Pats will be under a microscope for at least the next few games.

I still haven't read enough about this to comment on it, but lets face it - the Pats could play the Jets 1000 times, and the Pats would probably be 995-5. I'd say 600 out of 1000 if they got to cheat every time which apparently they do.

Ok.. someone answer this. They were filming defensive calls. How is that giving them any advantage in the 1st half?? You would need to take the tape out, watch it and attempt to analyze it. Werent they leading at halftime?

ESPN had it best, everyone is loving it because they hate the Pats. They hate the fact that the Pats have had the best record in football over and over. They do something other teams cant... play a team game and are sucessful at it. They are hated like the way the Cowboys were hated in the 90's. So now they all have something to yap about. Yet, recent memory... didnt the Broncos go over the salary cap when they won their ring? Merriman steroids? But thats ok... this is just fueled by hate.

They were also apparently stealing the audio signals. So they didn't necessarily need the tape to know what the defenses were doing, though that will certainly help. We also don't know the extent of their cheating. Perhaps they had other spotters around that were stealing signals in real time.

Cheating is never justified by other cheating. So you can talk about steroids and Merriman and the 90s Cowboys and the 1919 Black Sox all you want. Regardless, the Pats superbowl championships are now under question. Particularly since they were all won by a FG. Cheating sure can make the difference in a 3 point game.

If someone has already mentioned this then I apologize, but the NFL visited every team and specifically told them not to do what NE is alleged to have done. Given that blatant disregard for the rules I think the best course of action is to suspend Belecheat for an entire season and dock his pay. Very few folks in and around football would care if he's gone with the exception of Pat fans. Sadly this is not out of character for him in both his professional and personal lives. This would send a message across the league that you will be held personally responsible for cheating. Docking them draft choice or a loss seems to be less fair to me as it affects too many not associated with the alleged cheating.
