Will A-Rod Break Maris' Yankee Single Season 61 Home Runs Record?

I say yes. The guy is in a zone to have a September similar to when he hit 14 Home Runs to break the American League record for the month of April.

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

  • It would be so fitting for him to hit 62, break the team record, then bolt town.

By the way, nobody cares about team records.

  • SC, he is hitting a home run every 10 at bats. With 20 game left multiplied by 4 ABs per game he will finish with 59.

Yeah, if you look at it that way but there is no telling how it will go down.

We have a shot to keep him because Steinbrenner is dedicated to winning unlike the Mariners who have zero shot.
  • Yankee fans care about team records because they want another Yankeeography hosted by John Sterling on the YES Network.

  • If there is a record to be broken Torre can DH him like the other night when A-Rod hurt his ankle.

You're right, but I feel that if we can secure the wild card Torre is going to start resting Arod and the other regulars so they're not burned out like last year. This will vost him AB's.
  • the point will be moot unless Arod actually contributes in the post season and at least hits his weight with a few dingers.

  • Arod doesn't care solely about money - he's got a quarter billion earned already. He wants to go somewhere where the juvenile fans won't turn on him when he has a bad streak, where REAL fans will appreciate him, not the spoiled brat yankee 'fans' who think they deserve a world series win every year, who feel Arod should hit a home run every time up.

He wants top money again, and he wants to play for a winner.

Possible team that can give him that = Yankees

    Impossible team = Seatroll

  • This just in, Arod has enough money to buy a house on both the east AND west coasts....NEWS FLASH!

There are plenty of teams that are 'winners'...This just in, it's been over half a decade since the yankees have won the world series!
  • This just in - The Seattroll Marinated have NEVER won a World Series, EVER image In fact you have to get to the big dance first.

    Geez that was easy.
  • Gemmint, why bother? Ignoring him is the best thing. Don't stoop to his level!

    Geez that was easier.

Real FANS are fans of the titles, but are fans of the team. It's easy to see those who gloat about past world series wins only care about titles, and care nothing for the team.

Gee I don't know, Axtroll. I was with them that World Series winless period from 1979-1995. 16 long long years.

But of course you've got me beat on that by nearly twice as much! image
  • I am sure all you talked about was 'man these guys suck, I want my world series wins back! wahhh'

  • << <i>Gemmint, why bother? Ignoring him is the best thing. Don't stoop to his level! >>

SC, would someone ignore cancer (God forbid)? Of course not.

  • << <i>I am sure all you talked about was 'man these guys suck, I want my world series wins back! wahhh' >>

We definitely wanted that taste of victory once again, something you'll never experience.
  • Hilarious that he doesn't deny saying he said his team sucks and only rooted for the world series wins.

Hilarious that in this day and age people still honestly think that steinbrenner somehow wants to win more because he spends more, ignoring the reality that he has more to spend.

Hilarious that simple minded folk like gemmint are so easily manipulated.

  • My team did suck particularly in the late 80's and early 90's. What are you talking about? Please explain in great detail.

  • New York Yankee History for Dummies

1000th Book in the Dummies Series

"The New York Yankees have a long and storied history. Even their recent history captures the ultimate highs and lows of the sport, from winning four World Series Titles in five years (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000), to being the first team to lose a playoff series after leading 3 games to none (2004).

When the team first moved to New York they began playing at Hilltop Park. They played there from 1903 through 1912. Following this they moved into the Polo Grounds, which they shared with the New York Giants. The Yankees played at the Polo Grounds from 1913 - 1922. The Yankees play in the Bronx, NY, in Yankee Stadium, the "house that Ruth Built." Yankee Stadium was opened in 1923. During the 1974 and 1975 seasons the Yankees played in Shea Stadium while the stadium was being refurbished. However, owner George Steinbrenner has plans to build a new stadium a few blocks away, which is scheduled to open in 2009.

The Yankees have now finished first in the American League Eastern Division for 9 consecutive seasons (1998 - 2005), and have made the playoffs 12 years in a row."

  • You're a fan when they win, and couldn't care less when they lose. It's been your M.O. here for a long time, and am sure it's how you are in real life.

  • Of course I care when they lose. I watched on all of the terrible years. If I was a bandwagon fan as you always claim that I am, I wouldn't have watched them.

There is no question however your dedication to losing. Losers in life are usually drawn to such things.
  • Typical yankee fan: yankees lose, no interest, couldn't care less...they win, 'we're long time yankee fans and we've always stuck by our team'...whatever loser.
  • God you're dumb tonight. Oh, well every night.

Altering quotes is a forum offense! Well in your case I guess it's ok since you're an offense every night.
  • Forum offenses include things like only rooting for your team when they win...in which case, the whole lot of you yankee 'fans' should be banned for life.
  • Now why would you say such a thing? This jealousy/blind hate of the Yankees is really something that you should have checked out. It's not rational.

    Please explain in great detail.

51 as of tonight, id say yeah, whats left ,a month or so reg season
  • This thread is a perfect example of how Axtell/Sitizen has ruined this entire forum. Why oh why did PSA let him back in the door? All he does is ruin everything he touches. We could be having a nice discussion about one of the most spectacular years a ball player has had in recent memory, instead we get yet another Axtell crap-fest.

    Please PSA make it stop!

Kind of sucks to have your thread ruined by malcontents doesn't it?

Perhaps you guys will think about that before ruining a Mariners thread next time.

I am figuring he is good for around 55 homers and a 155 RBI. An unreal season. Hands down MVP.
But the stat that is the craziest is that he has scored 130+ runs !
He'll be in NY next year.

  • Again, who cares about team records?

The single season record is 73, and as much as I like Arod, no way he hits 73.
  • perhaps when AROD turns 40 he can give barry a call and request some leftover steroids; where upon he will then hit 83 homers.
