To Dav or not Dav

After what appeared to have been a Crandell-ian effort, I have finally completed my 61 Topps FB set in all PSA 8 or better (not updated yet as I have not received the last card).
This is normally where Jim annouces that he is parking is set. This means that he no longer makes significant upgrades and that allows him to focus his efforts and finances on other areas. Not a bad idea.
If I where to enter all the upgrades I would basically be tied for first on this set with the empire. While I won this set last year, this is one of the few sets that the empire did not win last year within the 60's FB area. But winning again will not be cheap nor easy and will certainly focus me away from my other interests.
I am interested in hearing any inputs on whether to park it and move on certainly dropping to second and lower as time passes, or whether to stay and fight the good fight against the empire to see if there might not be one more certificate in this set.
Thanks for your inputs,
Fuzz
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

How much is the certificate and the gold star worth to you? Is it worth putting increased resources and effort into one set, instead of increasing the scope of your collection? Will you be happy adding cards in higher grades that may not have the eye appeal of the card it is replacing, just to get an incremental increase in your GPA?
Lastly, will you be happy sleeping at nite knowing that only the evil empire will be fearing the Fuzz that nite, instead of numerous other collectors should you pursure multiple other sets instead? image

However, if you are considering going after pre WW2 baseball cards instead of the top spot on '61 FB, please ignore all my leading questions above and continue to go after the evil empire.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Down with the evil empire keep upgrading. Everyone likes to be #1 in something.

    Fuzz,

By all means go for it.

Although you are right and I let the vast majority of my sets "rest" when every card is in 8 or better if I were roughly tied with the "Evil Empire" there is no doubt bthat I would fight on.....but beware, Jeremy and the Empire are probably plotting against you at this very moment.

    All the best,

    Dav
  • While I respectfullly disagree with others, including Jim, I say, park it and go for something else. There is no shame in being #2 in any set like this and you can then focus on something else. That said, keep an eye out for an upgrade or two, just to keep things interesting.
    Respectfully,
collector who doesn't concentrate on one set or another!

I think it's obvious he's made some kind of deal with the evil empire .... cause there's no way "the old Fuzz" we all know and love, would even utter that question aloud.

    It's a sad, sad day!
