Standard Reports on the Set Registry

Guys,

I love the Set Registry. I enjoy going in and seeing what I've got and what I still need. But, as I'm loading up more sets, I'm noticing that its becoming a little more time consuming to check on where I stand, year by year.

What I'm proposing (and hopefully BJ doesn't kill me...) is that somewhere down the road, it would be nice to have the ability to type in my Account Name and recive a report of all the sets that I have on the Registry along with my rating, ranking, avg grade, and maybe some other info like last date updated.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas along this line? I know there has been talk of a Collection Rating, but I didn't want to try to take it that far, too fast. Frank B

    Frank,

I'm shocked that I've been in first place for this long. I'm having a tough time with the 70 set. And I actually thought that it was going to be easy.

  • While we're at it, I would also like to see the total number of cards in the set we have currently, and how many left to go. The percentages are a little hard to figure sometimes.

  • And perhaps statistics as far as how your cards compare with the Population Report (i.e., carkim Carlos Aponte has 72 Nolan Ryan PSA 10 - 1 of 1). But yes, percentage is great along with the other two items, but let's say again carkim (Carlos) has 400 hards, with 487 left to go in the regular set, with 2 variations and 7 variations to go. I don't know.

What also would be nice is a link to the Set Registry from ebay showing that 52 Topps xxx Mantle PSA 7 went for $700.00 on xx/xx/xxxx date to give those in the registry some idea of how much cards are going for.

As with many, I'm not keen on Price Guides, since they don't reflect what people pay for stuff. Those that don't frequent the Set Registry to find out what the costs are won't bid higher, only us who are on the Set Registry who are bidding against each other, but we already are.

    Rambling and rambling here.

    Sorry.

Geez guys -- it takes forever to enter a database that has already been built for PSA and preliminarily has no weighting. Now you want a database that would require at least 2 full-time programmers as well as a top-notch system administrator? Please exhale.

There is one item which PSA has not added into the registry, but has already used in compiling it - the highest known grade of each card (used to find the weighted top possible grade of the set). It would be possible to add a column giving the highest grade in existence of each card. This column would not need to be frequently updated (and once a card has been found in a 10, that card will never again need updating), and it would not detract from their market from the online population report, as people are usually far more concerned with how many there are of a card in a certain grade (especially for vintage cards where there are normally a number of 9s and 0 or 1 10). This certainly isn't an urgent priority, but it would prove very informative in some situations (like Vargha's Bowman PCL set).

  • Nick,
    Great idea.

Some sets, may have a run of 8's with a 7 popping up in the run. One has a tendancy to dismiss that card as a filler until one learns that the 7 is the highest graded example of that particular card. Surely there would be some way without having to reprogam the entire database of the registry to have, what is essentially, a bonus attached to having the finest known, or one of the best known examples.

    BUT

before we get into discussing bonus rounds for the contestants, let's just be grateful that the backlogged sets are being entered into the registry. I have a couple on that long list as I am sure you guys do. First things first!

THE FLOGGINGS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES
