How long is long enough?

alright all snickering aside.

I bought a high end card (well high end for me at $1124). I sent payment for the item 4 days after winning it with Paypal. I then waited a week and kindly asked the seller if the card had been shipped and if they could please provide me with the tracking information. I then waited 2 days longer and sent another email (both through Ebay) asking if they received my first email about the status of shipping.

It has now been 3 days since my first email and I still have not heard anything at all from the seller (actually i have heard nothing from the seller since the day i sent payment.

I understand that people have lives and don't sit around waiting to reply to emails but how long would you wait before emailing again?

thanks

<< <i>No excuse for not providing tracking info.... you paid roughly 9 days ago, even if it's en route, the tracking info should be live.

Why not email daily? $1124 is not small change to 98% of the population.

Also, that is a beautiful card. >>

    Yes, I agree 100%

  • I would be getting upset also. For that kind of money I might even file a claim just to get his attention.
  • If it helps any Edina (Minnesota I assume) is not far from here. Unfortunately, to people in Edina $1200 is chump change.

    Ha, ain't that the truth.

    GREAT CARD.

I am worried just because i haven't heard a thing yet. However, the sellers feedback is pretty darn good. I should have mentioned too that the last thing i heard from the seller was a payment reminder he sent 3 days after the auction ended. Guess he was in a hurry to get paid but not so much to reply to emails.

  • For what it's worth, I just purchased a '69 Aaron and Mays (Both PSA 7) from this guy and it took a couple of weeks to arrive. The shipping was slow, but the cards were nice. Great seller, just a little slow. Just be patient - you bought a nice card and it will be worth the wait!

  • Matt,
Normally I give the seller 10 business days (Excluding Sun/Holidays) starting the day after the payment is made before I take any other action. I agree that he should of answered your email but sometimes messages through the EBAY system are blocked by the Spam filters and do not get through. I would try one more Email to his regular email address and if he does not respond to it in a few days which would probably leave you around the 12-15 business days without a response or the item than you should file a dispute through Paypal. Just remain calm and professional and Im sure it will work out in your favor. Good Luck

screw being nice--file Paypal claim today. Out....
  • He may be getting back at you. It took you 4 days to pay him thru paypal, which takes about 5 minutes of computer time. He was probably checking ebay on a regular basis wondering if/when you were going to pay, and you finally did. Now is his chance to make you sweat a little. Did you communicate to him that you would be paying in 4 days or did you just wait that long before taking the 5 minutes to pay him?

I sent him an email with in minutes of winning the auction letting him now exactly when i would be sending payment. I also gave him the reason why i would be waiting the 4 days (as i had to move the money into my Paypal account). He replied back that day to thank me.

I do plan on being patient. I'm not new as a buyer or seller on Ebay. I just get nervous with this kind of high dollar transaction and wanted to know the boards veiw. I have only ever twice been involved in transactions over 1K, once as a seller and once as a buyer. AS the seller I emailed the buyer the day the card was mailed with the tracking info. As the buyer I was also treated the same way with an email dated the day it was mailed and all the needed tracking info.

Anyway I will keep everyone updated and hopefully this will all work out.

Geez, someone getting impatient after 4 days waiting for a payment, I don't think that is necessary.

Sorry artistlost, did not mean to make it sound like I was dogging you...that is why I asked if you let him know right away payment would be in 4 days...since you did and he had no problem with it then you are fine....and yes, I have seen sellers get impatient if there is no pay - and no communication - in 4 days. But sounds like you let him know ahead of time, I guess he could still be messing with you for making him wait 4 days...hopefully he is just slow. Nice card!!!!

Hey no worries at all. I didn't think you were dogging me. I understand the frustration of selling something and either not getting the payment or an email from the buyer. In my auctions i ask that payment be sent with in 3 days of the auctions close. However, that being said i have no problems waiting if the buyer contacts me to let me know.

I'm still holding out that he is just a little slow.

I would file the claim. And you'll be AMAZED at how quickly he "finds" your emails too.
  • I usually give 10 days after payment before i file unless the seller has kept me informed then I will usually go to 20 days.

So i finally received a reply from the seller...it read as follows.

"Hello. Card was sent awhile ago, please kepp me posted."

copied directly from Ebay. I asked for a date and tracking information and this is what i got. I have since sent back two additional emails (the last being today) asking for tracking and a date again. I did pay almost $14.00 for shipping so i would sure hope it was insured and have tracking.

I am going to wait two days and then open a Paypal dispute maybe that will get some fire under his butt.

  • If the seller printed the shipping label through paypal you can go to your items won in your ebay and click on view order details and it will give you the tracking info and date shipped, but this only works if he printed/paid for shipping through paypal. Good luck.

  • I would email back giving him 24 hours to email you the tracking number and telling him if you don't have the info from him in that time you will then file a PAYPAL claim.

Well. I went ahead and opened a Paypal dispute and low and behold...the seller replied to me with in minutes (3 times actually). They also have tried to turn it around on me. Damn...this Ebay thing is getting really old.

All that being said they have still not provided me with any useful shipping info. I really hope this card arrives.

I don't think there is a way they can turn it around on you, you paid in a timely manner and followed Ebay and their rules, that's it, that's your end of the deal. They will have to prove the item arrived and until they do, it's all on them. Hopefully it will all be over with soon and you will have that really nice looking card in hand.
  • why not just get their contact info from ebay and call them?
