Roman - What percentage of the existing coins would you guess are graded by PCGS?
Edited to say "Nice coin!" >>
No idea, Andy. Working as a data mining / modeling analyst, I can tell you that I simply don't have enough information to make an educated guess. In my previous post I stated the current pop report because we were discussing the grade of this particular coin, which is PCGS slabbed. I can tell you that the odds of it being a 55 are pretty good

I think you do. You can pick other issues where you can make an intelligent guess as to how many exist. Then, you can compare your estimates against the pop reports. Do that for a handful of issues and your estimates for other issues can become meaningful and educated.

Well, I still don't have that information, Andy. Production numbers 200 years ago are in no way representative of the surviving examples. There are other factors that I would need to consider, like attrition due to circulation or melting, etc. Certain information can only be obtained from observing the market for a number of years, either personally, or as reported by collectors specializing in that series. If that was something I would be interesting in doing - I could obtain this information. However, currently I have other projects that I would rather spend my time on.

I am a sucker for sun coins, probably my next area of interest. Actually sun, moon, and stars- not too much to ask, is it?
