Anyone watching this joke? In the 3rd inning, Ichiro hits a single. He then proceeds to steel 2nd base due to a missed tag by Jeter. But wait, the ump calls him out?!?! A travesty to be sure as althought the ball beat him there, Jeter did not even come close to applying the tag. And don't even get me started on the "ball beating him there issue" as it's apparent that that is no longer the standard based on recent events.
As if that wasn't enough, Ichiro comes up again in the 5th, hits a ground ball to Jeter and beats the through to first. Oh, but wait wait wait... the ump calls him out! Slow replays show him clearly touching the bag before the ball is caught by the 1st baseman.
So, so far Ichiro has a CS instead of a SB and an out instead of a hit. Pretty crappy way to start the night off in a very, very important game. Oh, and btw, the M's lost at least 1 run as a result of these blown calls.
I know the umps are human and make mistakes, but these are 2 of the easiest calls to make. The guy at 2nd was looking right at it and still blew it, and the play at first is made correctly by watching the runner and listening for the pop of the ball. Are the umps getting lazy... do they have something against Ichiro? Wait... Ibanez just hit one down the right field line.... OH! thrown out at 2nd... close play but it looks like the umps got 1 call right. Guess they couldn't have blown that one to help make up for the 2 pathetically blown calls?!?!

Oh, I forgot to mention... if Ichiro ends up losing the batting title by one hit, I will not be responsible for my actions

<< <i>I did not see any of the game or replays but you know how everybody in New Yuck and reporters will talk about how great a play it was for Jeter to make. >>
Sorry, it didn't happen this morning.
