Poll: Slabbed or raw, how did you start getting coins for your set?

I'm curious how many collectors out there are already buying slabbed coins for their registry set verus raw coins and then having them graded?

I have done it both ways, I'm proud to say that my mint set Ikes are all from raw coins. My proof Ikes are raw and slabbed.
Collector of all proofs 1950 and up plus mint and proof Ikes.

  • I have used both methods on my proof Kennedy set. I have found that I can't tell the difference between a PF69DCAM and a PF68DCAM. I sometimes wonder how they decide at PCGS.image

I have been buying pcgs slabbed coins because I buy over the net most of the time but if I find coins I think will grade in a shop or show I will buy them and submit them myself. I do have some coins to submit for my registry set.
