1809 105 Bust

habaracahabaraca Posts: 2,123 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anyone have an 1809 105 bust half that doesn't have the die cracks on the reverse?

I have compared my G coin to an XF and it matches, even little marks on the coins that are not mentioned in Overton, or by the Good Doctor from Tennessee.

Yet the two die cracks on the reverse are not present on the G half, they are on the XF.

I haven't figured out how to attach a picture here yet. anyway the ones I have are just scans

    your link won't display.

My reverse has a different T I allignment and Motto position from the 115.
Closest is the 112 but the star position on the obverse is different.

This reverse also has the A and M touching which is the 113 but again other 113 points don't match up.

guitarwes: Your "Link" doesn't open up.

habaraca: My 1809 O-105 has the reverse die crack per the O/P book. You know what it looks like, do I need to attach a picture?

I see nothing in the BHNC published Errata that refers to an EDS coin without the reverse die crack. Perhaps you found a "special die state."

Also I see no records anywhere to show that 1809 Reverse Die D was used to strike any other coin. Therefore, the die must have cracked soon after it was mated with Obverse Die 3 to strike the O-105.

Perhaps FEVER and SlumLord have more they can add to this.

    Regards,

    Ed R.

Yes, 105 exists as a true prime. Most show the reverse cracks and striking effects from a collapsed die (very weak central detail on both sides), but some early ones are known. Low grade coins make poor choices from which to ascertain die state info as most markers are gone, even on F12 coins, and especially one prone to weakness like 09 105.

Thanks all for your help, assistance, and education.

Seems like this would then be a true prime before the breaks.

edmerlr thanks for the picture offer I have looked at the ones on this site many times.

The XF I also have in hand is a very good example . In doing a star by star and die lines all points on obverse match.
Doing the same on reverse also, even some little what look like engraver lines in the claws and leaves match on both, just NO CRACKS.

Guess it is to bad she is a good with a very big H carved on the reverse.

Just happy to learn more about the Ladies and was sure this was a 105
