Perez Steele Great Moments

I'm considering picking up a few autographed Great Moments cards to frame for my office. I'm thinking of the Giants (Mays, McCovey, Marichal) and Braves (Aaron, Mathews, Spahn). Can anyone give me the 120 second overview of the sets and things to look for? Any suggestions on framing styles or techniques? (I'm quite concerned about light damage fading the cards and signatures.)

I'd make sure they are framed with acid free archival matte board, and UV glass. And try and make sure there is as little direct sunlight on the frame as possible.
As far as the set goes, there are 70 cards that are possible to obtain signed, and the first 65 or so of those are very easy. You should have no problem picking up the ones you listed very inexpensively.

  • Griffins....i saw your set on the psa registry. im trying to complete the set myself. are you thinking of obtaining the other cards and getting them signed (for instance, the robin yount). obviously, some of the players are dead...but there are quite a few that are not and their sigs are quite attainable. thanks.

I"ve got a complete set- Yount is not in the set, having been elected after the set was made. Ditto with Cepeda, Brett, Boggs, etc. I have no idea why Bob Gibson is not in the set, but it's been about 15 years since they stopped coming out with new series, so I guess it's done.
There are only 70 possible to have been signed, I've got 67 registered now in the HOF autographs registry (3 wouldn't register last week, but I just added them a few minutes ago). 2 more are combo cards (Willie/Mickey/Duke and Reese/Robinson) that I have signed but there is no place to put them, and the 70th is the near impossible Ashburn, which I just got and isn't yet graded. It's a cool set and for most of them the prices are quite low right now.

Cant get any better than Griffin's description of matting and framing.

AJW, I have 3 different ones that are not PSA/DNA but guarantee their authenticity. I bought them from Bill Daniels about 4-5 years ago. I have Snider, Brock, and Bordreau if you are interested in any of them.

Bill Daniels, Dave Dame (Gallery of Full Steps on ebay), and Mickey's are all good, reliable sources for these.
