I like the new Weighing status. Is there at ETA for all Set completion?

I think the way PCGS is handling the new weighing of the SetRegistries is great. I don't own a Washington set, but after looking at it, think it is absolutely fair to all the way the quarters are weighted. (I'll reserve judgement on the clads/State quarters- it doesn't appear they're weighted that much).
I'm not absolutely convinced PCGS needed to add all the varieties they did, that should have been decided by the actual Registry Participants in that class/series.
I'm curious though, does PCGS give us any indication on their roll-out plans for the other Sets?
Any timetable or schedule of what set is due next for weighing?

  • The only offical word is here. This link is on the main registry page.
  • Pat,

Click on the Set Registry page. Under all the categories is a link for Registry News. That has the latest info on sets being added and weighted.

The last newsletter said that Lincolns were up next, but the News page says Flying Eagles. My bet is that they won't add weights to the Lincolns until the survey is sent out first.

So, best guess, at this rate, is allow 2002 to be the year to undertake this massive mission.

  • Pat,

My guess, once opinions on "optional" additions is figured out, would be 2 to 3 related sets each week to every other week until the sets are complete. So far we have had Washingtons silver, clad, and state in both MS & Proof and also Trade dollars and a couple of gold sets. It doesn't look like it is taking long for the changes to be made as long as the weighting scheme is decided.

I'm with you on the new weightings. I am a Trade Dollar collector and am now subject to the new weightings. I believe that they ARE fair a give a more accurate portrayal of the set. Within the series, there is no way that a 73-CC should be weighted the same a common 77-S. If someone has a better way, I'd love to hear it.

I do think that the shift of bringing varieties in is a little unfair to those that have been working on a set and now find their set incomplete.

One more aspect is a potential weight benefit to those that are say 50% complete, 75% complete and then at 100% complete. This would reward those that are focusing on completeness rather than grade.
