WHAT'S UP WITH GRADYCOINS?

I had purchased (3) 1999 PCGS MS69 silver eagles from Gradycoins on ebay. Description said NO SPOTS OR TONING. I pay promptly and about 3 weeks later they come in the mail. 2 of them were nice coins, but 1 was spotted up. I email the seller and tell him I am sending one back for an exchange. He says no problem. Delivery confirmation says the coin arrives back a few days later. I wait over a week, no coin. Email the seller asking status of order and he asks if I want an exchange or a refund. I tell him I want an exchange of the coin. Again, no problem. Wait over a week again, no coin. At this point, I am done dealing with this idiot that can't handle a simple exchange. Email him again telling him I want a refund. I gave him 4 days to refund my money before I said I would start collections through ebay. Today is the 4th day and NO REFUND AND NO COIN. He won't even email me back. I can't believe a dealer would chance his reputation to be tarnished over $95.

It's not about the money. $95 isn't going to send me to the poor house or enable me to retire, it's the point that he's a thief that bothers me. There are 3 types of people that I really hate. Lazy people, liars, and most of all, thieves. I have dealt with and still deal with quiet a few people on these boards, and one thing in common with all of you who I have dealt with is, you are all HONEST people with coins that are correctly described. Thank you for that.

I've never had to go through ebay to retrieve a coin or my money back, don't know anything about the process. I've never dealt with a piece of garbage before. Has anyone had a similar experience on ebay, or anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My experience with Chris Grady of Gradycoins can be summed up in 1 word. PATHETIC!!! Inaccurately described coins, SUPER SLOW SHIPPING, can't handle an exchange, keeps my money and then is too much of a coward to even answer emails. I didn't want anyone on these boards to go through the same experience as me, so I thought I would share my thoughts on what kind of a dealer Chris Grady is in my mind.

Hey TA. I remembered that your 10 yr old son and other kids read this, so I tried to keep it pretty clean compared to my post awhile back that I'm sure some of you remember. Believe me, I have some choice words in my mind for Gradycoins that aren't so clean and nice. Thanks again TA for opening my eyes to the fact that kids read these posts. Everyone have a great week and thank god college football has started again for all the sports fans out there.

Chill out! You only have 16 posts and you go off like this. I think you did what you needed to do, but you surely didn't have to make it public.

Did you ever think of the possibility that Chris Grady has some personal problem that is causing the delay? I've bought two coins from him without any problem and the coins arrived very quickly. Steveimage

I can vouche for Chris I purchase 20 gold eagle from him over a 3 month span, and received everyone. They were all nice coins. We sometimes get worked up over nothing, I;m sure there is a reasonable explanation for the delay.

Give this some time and I think you will see you have over reacted.

This doesn't read as Registry related to me and needs to be moved to the US Coin Forum image
  • I probally say that something has happened to Gradycoins in the last week. He has 16,801 positive feedbacks and 7 negatives. Three of the negatives came in the last four days. I would give him a little longer and see if he had a excuse. image
  • I've bought from Chris with no problems.

There has to be a better explanation here.

I would suggest using the Ebay Look-up a Member function and get his phone number and call him instead of frustrating yourself with Email and snail-mail.

Fletcher? You logged into the wrong account?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Maybe he is just lazy and not actually a thief.

Gradycoins recently applied to become a PCGS authorized dealer and I suspect that application may go through without a hitch. Sure, to me, Grady is the "competition" on ebay at this point so why even post a comment to a thread that hurts the competition? Well, because IMHO this thread is simply not right. Seriously, if Grady was truly a "thief" he would have stolen the funds for all 3 coins - not shipped all three (and then tried to steal -1- coin on a possible return) - right? Did he possibly fall behind on some shipments in the heart of the Summer break - looks that way to me. Who hasn't done that some time in their business?

This thread illuminates the reasons why many coin dealers chose to be "wholesalers" rather than deal with the public. And, by no means I am suggesting that dfranks should be pleased with his service he received on this transaction. But, I have seen it happen too many times - reputable coin dealers conduct reputable business involving millions of dollars of coins over a span of many years only to have a $50 or $100 deal or two get messed up along the way one month (perhaps a death in the family or other personal problem?) and the dealer get dragged through the mud. I truly commend those dealers who are true retailers - it is very tough work pleasing all the people all of the time.

Dfranks - You have reason to be upset with your transaction but, with all due respect, the title to this thread is excessive - the "punishment does not fit the crime". You should really change the title to reflect that the dealer was late in getting you back a returned item. Period. In fact, if Gradycoins does not ship you your exchange coin in the next 7-10 days, I will personally make sure you get your purchase price returned to you for that coin or a replacement coin sent out to you. I have no doubt that no one was trying to keep your $99 (or whatever that single coin cost you with a sheet bid of $15 raw).

<< <i>BEWARE!!!! CHRIS GRADY OF GRADYCOINS IS A THIEF!!!! >>

I'm sure you actually meant to say something like "Chris Grady really screwed up my order" since nothing you posted warrants the accusation that he's a thief.

  • I'm not an attorney and certainly NOT giving you legal advice, but I'd be looking over my shoulder for a libel, slander, defamation, tortious interference with businerss prospects, etc. suit any day now. image
  • Wow! I hope the new title suits everyone better than the first one. I understand people have personal issues and problems, but say something. Let people who are waiting weeks for items know that something is going on and that's what the delay is. Don't say no problem, do nothing about the delay, and then space people off. That's not professional. I know his feedback is excellent, and that's why I bought from him. This is my only experience with Gradycoins and like I said, it has been bad. I shouldn't have called him a thief, it was harsh, and I personally apologize to Chris Grady. I sometimes don't think before I speak, and what comes out comes out. Maybe that's why I'm divorced. I'm a foreman for a construction company and I'm sure you know, or can imagine the venacular and word phrasing that's used on job sites. I don't think I "went off" on the guy like fcloud said. If you think that what I said is "going off", you more than likely wouldn't make it past first break on my jobs.

If I offended people out there, sorry. I'm sure alot of you think of me as rude, and maybe I am. I believe that when there is a problem, you let the people involved know how, when, and if the problem is going to be fixed.

Russ, you're right. I meant to say something like that. Wondercoin, thank you, you are right. The punishment didn't fit the crime, and I feel a little bit like an ass.

dFranks - Very fair title to this thread. And, do let me know if you do not see your coin by the end of next week.

How do you know this? Are you on the application board?
  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,977 ✭✭✭✭✭
No, I am not on the application board. But, all authorized dealers get a letter from PCGS asking to confidentially comment on any new applicants.

  • Excuse me Roger,
Just a friendly reminder that this is the Set Registry Forum and not the butcher shop. I know you've
reminded many members of this when their subject matter strayed from the appropriate criteria. I
wouldn't want you to commit an infraction that you are so opposed to.

If you must reply to another member in such nasty terms, I would suggest doing so via a personal
message. Then, other Forum members won't be exposed to such carnage and your character will not be
questioned once again. You have a nice day but do take a chill-pill. Thanks!

I've bought maybe a hundred coins from Chris over the last few years and I have had ZERO problems. I will admit he is a tad slow in mailing but that's the way he runs his operation, no biggie. I have never had an issue and he has been extremely helpful. I think the poster that started this thread should be ashamed that they took their "delay" to a public forum and if you get sued, you deserve it. image
