Icelandic '50's era proofs.

I never really noticed these but recently discovered a couple of 1 eyrir coins
in a box of junk. These are the little bronze ~16mm coins that were demonetized
many years ago. They aren't especially tough in unc that I've noticed but these two
are either spectacular gems or are proofs. They're a little substandard for proofs
though the strikes are full.

One is a '59 and the other a '66. The main reason I ask is that the '59 was, apparently,
very low mintage. Does anyone have any experience with these?

  • It's interesting you mention your coins are "substandard for proofs", because Krause says: Values for the 1953-59 proof issues are for impared proofs. Brilliant proofs may bring 3 to 4 times these figures.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps they really are proofs.

The previous owner just has a price of $5 and $7 on them which is very unrealistic for uncs,
no matter how gem. Perhaps they are old proof prices.

They came out of a box of junk where the coins are all worth less than a dollar but many were
    packaged way back.
