really diappointed in the big ben class marks auto at a 7 and the fast willie playoff at a 6 - I took that one out of pack and into a holder - should I crack and resubmit?

I was disappointed by some 6s on newer auto cards, I didn't notice some minor chipping on the edges on the back. That was what made them 6s.

Maybe post some big scans and get some opinions before you send them in, but remember it's a $5 special right now for football.

I have been getting 6's on modern cards lately too. I b*tched an moaned about it and then realized why. On the edges of a few of them they were bent. Hard to explain, but if you think of a single card sitting slightly askew on top of a stack of other cards and then were to press down on the top card you get this sort of "rolled" edge. It's really only visible under the halogen lamp when rotated and pitched under the light. I was louping the corners and didn't see it. But in the light as you do this, it becomes evident. With contenders it's a big problem for some reason. You also want to check the foil and make sure its filled in all the way and that it's not overfilled in spots.That single flaw won't make it a 6 but it may have contributed. The stickers also let some glue out the sides, usually you can wipe it off if you're careful.

I used to be very particular about my autographed cards. I wanted at least 9's on modern autos, especially hand-signed ones. But when you realize the card has probably been handled 2-3 times before it gets inserted into a pack, it's a miracle that some of them garner 10's. I've since lowered my standards to be willing to accept PSA 7 autograph cards in my sets. A PSA 7 is still a Near Mint grade and presents well in any set.
