  • I don't know which VAM but it dosent appear to be a Philidelphia as the auction stated.
If I was half as smart as I am dumb Iwould be a genious
  • Well, it's a Denver mint
    It looks hella polished

Thought that it might be a 1W....not sure and don't have ref. material here.....

Over $200??????gotta be shill or I'm missing something here.....
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
  • Not a 1W, but it's got a really cool broken tiara ray between the B and E in liberty. I think it's just a scratch in the neck.

Can't find any reference to it in any book, could it be a new discovery?

These State Auctions from their Treasury Depts all sell at stupid prices. Every state that uses Ebay for "lost"
owner sales make out like bandits. PA, TX and several others do this and the people that bid think they are
getting "rare" items just because it was in somebodys safe deposit box. It's BS in 99% of the sales. I don't
suspect shills but do suspect insider action by state employees (most of whom are what they are: state
    employees).

It is a 22D. The only VAM thsat I know of that brings that much is VAM 4. If it was nicer and a VAM 4, it would bring much more than that.

I am pretty sure, based on the long die crack, that it is a VAM 4. Congratulations to the winning bidder!

well, VAMWORLD does not have any pix to compare, but I will take your word for it image

It does say, however, that VAM-4 is a R-3??? I guess i should just stick to Morgans

According to the NGC pop report, they have only graded three of the VAM 4 coins. Here is the breakdown: 1 in VF, 1 in 58, and 1 in 65. I think the R-3 rating is out of date.

Again, as I mention on other threads, I am not perfect and may be wrong about my diagnosis; and if I am, someone will certainly correct me.

Looks like VAM 4 to me. I guess the State of Illinois Sucks.

R-3 was the estimate in 1993 when the coin was discovered. The Top 50 Peace Dollar book (2002) says the coin is scarcer than initially thought, but gives a desirability of **** (out of *****). Today, this is seen as one of the stoppers of the Top 50 set. The value guide in the Peace dollar book is also off (MS60 $50-60, MS64 $125-150).
