PLEASE JOIN US IN FINE DINING AND DANCING HIGH DESERT

I have received several PM's now asking me to ask High Desert to turn back on his PM and return to this board.

I am used to getting dragged through the flames for my positions and, frankly (as you know), I can take it. But, you know how it is when a collector gets thrown in the flames- it's like slapping your wife". TomB personally asked PCGS to "kill" his thread where he alluded to me and High Desert in a disparaging manner. I appreciated Tom taking that position. But, I also don't blame HD for wanting nothing more to do with this board. However, HIS INSIGHTS AND VIEWS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THIS BOARD, as witnessed by a number of collectors asking me to try to get him to come back.

We all know that some of the finest contributing members of these boards have quit from time to time (ruff, ruff image ) and so I think I can speak for the overwhelming majority of the board members when I ask High Desert to please consider coming back and joining us for fine dining, dancing and other fun on the board. image

Anyone else care to extend their invitation for HD's return.

I would like to ask HD, Mr. Green, Steve Pierce, and all the former and current #1 REAL collectors who have jumped ship, to please return. we need your input. Your NON-need to flex your muscles need not prevent you from feeling that you have comrades here. It's not that we hate you, or your sets or their registry position, it's just part of the real competition we feel here. We apologize for scaring you away. Please return.
And Hey, A BIG PLEASE to that registrycoin guy. We miss (the real) him too.
PS. Mitch if you know the way the communications work around this forum, please tell registrycoin, the old registrycoin to please return. We need the input of experience of those #1 guys.
    Thanks,
    Steve image
  • This is a follow-up to your guys' last "joke" thread, right? Please?

Supercoin: I think I resent your last post? You don't leave men on a battlefield. HD did absolutely nothing wrong in my opinion and the opinion of many others, who keep Pm'ing me asking for his return. IF YOU THINK THINGS HAVE SETTLED DOWN, THEN DON'T POST LIKE YOU JUST DID. Simply extend an invitation for him to join us. I gave you an apology for the joint thread involving HD. Isn't that enough? Just extend the darn "olive branch" and move on. Wondercoin.

Mitch is right. All lack of seriousness aside. There is absolutely no need to leave "one of our own" behind. You must agree, that our casualties must be tended to, just like your goals and feelings. HD did nothing, but suffered right along side Mitch. Don't treat HD like you have treated Mitch. They are not in the same roles. Mitch certainly deserves what he got, in your eyes, but HD, you must admit, did/does not. The olive branch is not that HEAVY. Pick it up, if not for anything, than for practice. Its been a long time.
  • Steve,

Can you point me to a post of your that hasn't been edited? image

    High,

Wherever you are, we Modern Typists want you back. Without you baiting us, we have trouble upgrading. The sets are suffering. Don't let a couple of people spoil the party here.

  • I'm sure HD is a big boy and can "take it", also. He may/may not be absent because of anything that has transpired here, and we shouldn't speculate.

That said, I certainly welcome HD's presence on the boards, along with anyone else that has something positive to contribute.

    Ken
  • Mitch, if you think you resent that post, then it came across with just the right combination of seriousness and levity. Unfortunately you appear to be serious, in which case I'm baffled why you posted this thread.

I didn't pile onto the previous "joke" thread or the "apology", but frankly both lacked important elements of their supposed intent.

Personally I correctly (as it turned out) suspected the joke thread was a joke when I read it, but that's probably because I have more past experience with you and could interpret it right. Others understandably didn't see it that way, you guys let it go on too long, and everyone got (in my opinion) overly worked up about it and the aftermath.

But the explanation/apology thread that eventually followed was to my mind extremely pompous and involved a lot more butt-slapping (sports guy type) among the Wondercoin inner-circle than any real remorse, in my opinion.

But who cares -- the entire thing was overblown, as you have been at pains to point out, so I'm sure HD would feel the same way, right? Why the need for this bizarre "invitation" thread?

And you do realize that HD's annual coin budget probably exceeds the net worth of many of the people here (myself included) that you are asking to beg he comes back? Not that should have anything to do with anything, but resonates with some of the attitude that I've been reading here lately.

In any case, I never told HD to go away, but I'm sure he's a big boy and can come back himself if he wants to. To the best of my knowledge, I remember his posts as being net positive to the board. I really didn't even know he was "gone", assumed he as just taking a break (damn good idea, frankly!) but I'm happy if he comes back, ok? I will especially be delirously grateful and overwhelmingly happy if he comes back and posts something about COINS for the love of Mike! No offense to any "Mikes" out there!!

Good lord, what a soap opera! Sorry I've contributed my little episode to it, but I feel better now, thanks for the opportunity. image

    Keith, no.
Solid. Let's speculate. Let's just assume that we do/did have something to do about it and go from there. Thanks, Keith and Solid. I know HD hears your inner plea for peace. image
And Tad. We'll ignore the "net worth" comment rearing its ugly head, and concentrate on the request for normality. Thanks. image
  • So who's going anywhere?

The council thingie doesn't interest me and as for the rest, I haven't had anything nice to say and so have said nothing. That's pretty much the whole week.

Things seem to be moving on.
  • I posted after the last couple replies, and on second thought solid's simply-put reply looks a lot better than mine. So ditto that one for me. image

Ok, I'm outta here, going to go promote my "open registry" concept with pretty pictures of... COINS!!

Wondercoin says "Supercoin: I think I resent your last post? You don't leave men on a battlefield." No, according to Wondercoin you have them to CRAWL back to their own lines.

TomB probably realized after some of the emotional rage subsided that name calling and derogatory remarks are uncalled for even in the mist of having a heated debate. He was mature enough to show some sensitivity regarding these types of comments by asking that the offending post be removed.

On the other hand Wondercoin felt it was o.k. to trash me by questioning my motivation saying that my intention in making the comments I made was to cause "damage" (even though I gave him the benefit of the doubt regarding why he started the thread that got a lot of members in an uproar). He then went on to tell me to "crawl back to the Big Board" since HE had decide that my feedback "isn't needed here."

Wondercoin, I've never questioned your motivation or intergrity although I have questioned your wisdom (one instance would be the way you started the leasing thread) and disagreed with you in respect to issues related to the coin market. You may not agree with my opinion or point of view but I have every right to express it, here or on the big board and you have no right to tell me or any other board member to "crawl" anywhere.

TomB is a stand-up guy. I had tremendous respect for him before he started the thread in question (Troll, etc.) and at the time I read it I knew it was out of character for him. I think after some cooling down he realized that the tone of the thread violated the standards of conduct he normally tries to live by and did what he could to try and right the wrong. The result is I've grown in my respect for him.

pmh1nic: It appears you are much more forgiving of TomB than you are of Mitch even though- in your eyes- they committed the same transgression.

    Now, why would that be?

While I respect TomB very much (as I do most everyone here), I think his role as self-appointed Forum Cop is played a bit too bluntly at times. However, I can see why the whole episode caused controversy. Controversy ain't exactly my cuppa tea, though, so I've not read up on current events much. In my experience, HD is a nice guy, and I'll raise a glass to 'im, wherever he may be. Cheers!

To receive forgiveness you need to ask for it first. TomB asked and received.

WW Bill: You have it right.

For the first 20 years of collecting I had a real small coin budget and admitted so while watching some of the greatest coin collectors teach me what they learned. In fact, I was lucky enough to personally go through one of the coin collections that all of the past and today's PCGS registry collectors COMBINED could never match. But I never felt a sense of being belittled by the coin collectors in question only a sense of wonderment.

Thereafter, as I started to earn more money my budget grew but I never forgot my beginnings as a collector.

If I may say so, the first twenty years as a collector were the greatest years of my life as I learned to love the hobby. Now that I have a few more coins, nothing has changed as those coins do not make me a better collector.

  • supercoin,

That is why I apologized in my second thread. I was sent a PM letting me know that Gembens was stiring things up by bring this 6 month old thread to the front page. I then realized I was adding to the unrest. In general everything I said is how I feel but my comments were totaly inappropriate because I don't know all that was going on at the time this thread was posted.

    Again my apologies to all.

    1. ....I really don`t think editing out all the garbage i posted and making amends for my insulting behavior- along with cheerfully endorsing brotherly love is "stiring things up" - seems most of you take youselves too seriously. 99.9999 % OF the people on this planet could give two hoots about coin collecting.Take a momment to ponder that your nothing more then a microscopic flec of matter- on a planet in a solar system thats snuggled in a galaxy that is a tiny corner of the known universe- surrounded by a trillion stars and billions of galaxy`s. Coin collecting , for the most part, is a solitudinal, selfish hobby. Our treasures get locked away in dark boxes until we sit alone in a dark corner of the room and study and fondle our cold metal disks or show them at a brouse . My wife lie`s sleeping beside me as i peck out these words. She means more to me then all the coins in my collection, she HATES coin collecting ! So to the handfull of you that might read this , rest easy- i promise to never visit or make comments in these message boards again.
    2. HD---

I just wanted to say that while your modern type material is a pain in the posterior--simply because I can't find pieces to get close enought to give you a little competition, your recent upgrades to the Complete US type set are awesome. It would be nice if you would share it one day as it is a true national treasure (leased or not).
