I've bought some stuff from them before. I think they've been on and off (NARU'd) a couple of times, but I've had good service with them. They're outta New Orleans, La. I believe.

Yes and I would never do it again. Item in question was previously in Jewelery and authenticity was questionable. I returned it and they called back saying I was crazy and nothing was wrong with the coin. I had two local reputable dealers back me up.

wow...Thanks!! The piece I'm looking at is an 1877 IHC PCGS slabbed and looks OK for the grade (G6). I'll keep an eye on the auction... again...thanks for the heads-up...Leo

Who I believe you are thinking about WES is Southern Coins and Precious Metals. They're located in Metairie, LA and I've heard good things about them.

Great Southern Coins I thought was out of somewhere in Alabama but a search shows they are loctaed in San Antonio TX.

I bought a coin from them just last month and had to return it. It looked nothing like the photo in the auction. I did get a prompt refund including shipping. I bought a couple nice raw coins from the old great Southern Coins a few years ago and they were great coins. Now, it looks like their raw coins are crap and their auction pics are somewhat deceiving.image

Please do not confuse Great Southern Coins with Southern Coins & Precious Metals out of Metairie LA.

Southern Coins & Precious Metals is a reputable firm. I've known the owner personally since 1986, and not once have I ever heard one person say anyhting but good about them.

Great Southern is a different story. Southern has tried to get the other guys to change their name because of the confusion.

    Be careful....
there is a greatsoutherncoin and a greatsoutherncoins
I believe that a lot of the previous thread comments were about greatsoutherncoins which have been NARU'd
I have bought from greatsoutherncoin and had no problems....their feedback is 100% so it looks like others are also pleased....

For some unknown reason, I'm getting Spam'd by them almost every day.

Have never bought from them - I look over their offering(s) - then delete.

Are the coins pictured in their eBay auctions the coins that actually get shipped, or do they use stock photos?
    When in doubt, don't.

The Southern part is apparently true.
You'll have to decide on the "great" part for yourself.

the ebay seller in question often buys coins that "haven't moved well" from local (San Antonio) dealers. Typically takes photos of the actual coin and offers them on ebay with no reserve. I've seen a few of the certified coins in person before they were wholesaled out and understand fully why the local dealers couldn't sell them (let's just say "not PQ for grade")

I believe they ship the one in the foto. Bought one that was nowhere close to PQ and returned it. All payments were 100% refunded promptly. The one I did biz with was in San Antonio, Texas IIRC. greatsoutherncoin was the seller.

greatsoutherncoins is an okay eBay seller. I've purchased several times from them. Yes, I get their spam UVC alerts almost every day in my email box. They are pretty scary when it comes to the raw stuff (way overgraded and problem coins), but their certified stuff is at least decent. Maybe most of their certified stuff is meh for the grade, but some of them are okay, too. At least they have good pictures so you can judge from the pictures. Yes, they ship the coin that is in the pictures; they are not stock photos. Shipping time is rather fast, usually arrives for me in about a week.

I have purchased 4 raw coins from Great Southern Coins over the past 3 years. The first was a nice score - not a big score, but a nice, hard to find, raw coin (that slabbed) at a really good price. The best thing I can say about the last three coins is that they refund your money promptly and courteously (including shipping).

Over a period of months I seem to forget about my last transaction with them and throw in a low "no risk" bid on a tougher raw coin. Only to be reminded when I get the coin that it has enough problems that it's not even worth the "no risk" bid.

That's been my experience for what it's worth.

I purchased two colorful PCGS MS65 Mercs from them. No problems - the coins looked exactly like their images.
