Todd Marinovich arrested for meth

Former USC great, NFL flop, and not-that-bad Arena Football star Todd Marinovich was arrested this weekend after cops say he was hiding almost a gram of methamphetamine, a syringe and a spoon in his guitar case.

According to sources, Marinovich was skateboarding near the Newport Pier in Orange County -- where boarding is strictly prohibited -- when police approached him. Cops say a frightened Marinovich then took off, leading them on a short chase. Cops caught up with the former QB, who was never much of a scrambler, hiding in a carport six blocks away.

Todd has nine prior drug-related cases in Orange County, and was on probation for a previous drug conviction.

Marinovich appeared in a Newport Beach court yesterday, where he plead not guilty to three misdemeanor charges. He will remain in custody until the Sept. 6 hearing.

Never much of a scrambler. That made the post...image
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I think the 9 previous drug-related charges kinda kill the suspense for me too.

I worked and lived in OC at the time that Marinovich was playing quarterback in high school. Apparently from day one (birth probably), his father had decided that his son was going to be the world greatest quarterback. His day to day life as a kid must have been miserable (live, eat, breath football, quarterbacking and dealing with an obsessed father). He got all the rave reviews in high school and had record setting performances. He went to USC with great fanfare and started getting into trouble that made the newspapers (drugs). He was probably in trouble in high school but it was not publicized. I recall he left USC after his sophmore year and went on to flop with the Raiders and the NFL. He enjoyed Mary jane a little too much.

He apparently liked(s) art, the beach and the ocean. After washing out from football he has not done much with his life other than hang out at the beach (being a free spirit no doubt).

I wonder how his relationship with his father was after he finished high school through the present. Not very good I bet. I wonder if his father ever just wrapped his arms around his son and said "I love you even if you choose to not play football".

What a sad way to live your childhood.

I remember the SI article wherein it said he had never been to McDonalds or had fast food. Ever. His dad was over the top. Probably should be taking at least half of the heat for his son's wackiness.

A case study on the dangers of child abuse, even in its less typical forms. In fact, I think his story really was in my Psych 101 textbook in college...
    Very sad.

You know what though? There is a point when you turn into an actual adult? Enough of the Daddy treated me this way bullcrap, the kid likes to party more than anything else, bottom line. He had opportunities and he chose to do what he wanted to do more. Oh well

Marinovich was arrested in a public bathroom in Newport Beach, California in May 2005, after being found with apparent drug paraphernalia and child pornography. He fled on a child's bicycle, but was caught a few blocks away. He gave his occupation as "unemployed artist" and "anarchist" on the police report, which stated that his pupils were dilated and his behavior "erratic."[4
