I was at the Phils game last night with a former major leaguer

Went down to Philly last night with my buddy to see the game and take his mom for her birthday - bigtime Phillies fan. She is an old friend of longtime Red Sox first baseman Dick Gernert who is from Reading. He went along and we sat in one of those fancy-shmancy super boxes with food and stuff. It was great. Dick Gernert was in baseball from 1951-2001 as a player, manager, coach, scout and sitting next to him talking baseball was a joy. The guy has forgotten more about the game than I ever knew!

Ryan Howard hits a walk off HR in the tenth, Dick Gernert signs a bunch of baseball for the folks in the box, he is now known as "The guy who hit fourth behind Williams", and Doug's mom had a great birthday present.
