Is this Henderson RC psa 10 worthy? + bettis

I just picked up these two cards raw. I haven't bought anything baseball or football in about 10 years, so I'm rusty.

What do you think of Rickey? No surface scratches, no wrinkles. The only thing so minute, and it's making it look larger cos of the scan size is the back on the upper right corner. It's not frayed; it's like a tiny tiny scratch. That's the only word I can think of it.

What about this Bettis? My question, is this issue slightly smaller in size? than normal? This guy had a bunch, and none of them are standard size. I picked the best one. I have no knowledge about this issue, and was told this was his best RC. There's no chipping. Under magnification, there is a super tiny white dot on the bottom left corner. You can't really see it with the naked eye, so I think it may be okay?

9 on the Rickey. If it were a common, I'd say a good shot at a 10, but I think they grade the Henderson different from other cards in that set, and the touch on the back right corner keeps it out of a 10 holder, IMO.

  • Might be too much PD. Centering is a 10.

I would say the Ricky is a 9 because of the back corner.

The Bettis looks sweet! I say 10

I'll probably send in Rickey when I renew my membership
    and use the 6 free.

    Might be too much PD.

    I don't see it, where?

Matt, do you know anything about the size for 93 SP football?
The Bettis is a tad bit smaller. I don't know if that's normal
for this issue (reminds me of 93 SP baseball Jeters).

1993 SP Football is "standard size" and that is an exact quote from Beckett Annual. These were highly sought out cards at one time and it is not uncommon to find the key rookies trimmed on the bottom border to remove the almost standard chipping on the lower left corner. I have encountered more than a few Bledsoe rookies from this set that were short as well.

Thanks snorto. The Bettis is short T/B and L/R.
Probably 1/32 short both ways. I probably won't send
it in. Don't have a very good feeling about it.

Henderson measures nicely. I invested $25 in it.
    I'd be happy with a 9.....actually, no I wouldn't image
    Okay...I'll take the 9. I think it's borderline.
  • The best that Henderson will get is a 9. That corner scratch or whatever you want to call it is going to show up like a big "kick me" sign under magnification.

Supposedly, a PSA 10 card can't have "visible" defects. If I can see that corner in a scan, the grader's eye will be drawn right to it in person. And under magnification, it'll be like you just saw Richard Simmons sans underpants.

Plus, PSA is harsher on the key cards from each year.

    Still, that'd be a damn pretty 9...
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

good luck on the henderson. i'd go with a 9 as well.

regarding the bettis, i have one i pulled straight from a pack that i've submitted 3 times and ALWAYS has been returned "MIN SIZE REQUIRMENT"... hope that helps.

    Thanks,
