PSA returned this card as a miscut??? opinions

I just received one of my June Special orders and this card was not holstered miscut. What is the opinion of people on the board? I thought PSA had a miscut qualifyer (MC).

  • It appears as though it is "DIAMOND CUT".

The left and right borders are parallel, but not even.
You can see the border from top to bottom on the
side panels narrow as you go up or down.
Although, I will say, they don't look that bad to me.

How does the back look? Also, can you put it on a dark background?

  • Tony,
This is the back as requested. I knew the card was a bit off cut but I didn't think it detracted from the cards appearance that much.

the bottom of the card has a "bat ear" , if it is too much psa will not holder it as it can be damaged when holdering

The part that got it returned as miscut is the edge that is curved from the cutting process. When your looking at the back, it is the right edge. I've had many cards returned for that. It just means that your card isn't trimmed, it just has a bad factory cut.

The MC qualifier is used is the card is cut normal, just EXTREMELY off centered, like 98/2 centering.

No offense, but I really try to stay away from cards like that, "OC" or diamond cut cards are nothing but trouble when submitted.

No offence taken I purchased the card in a lot off Ebay and have had no problems with any of the other cards I have submitted so far. I'll just have to be more careful when doing a submission.

I think you hit the nail right on the head now that I have taken a closer look. Who would have thought Topps would allow such an error to ecape. LOL I will be checking the cards alot closer before submission from now on.

Jim I had a 68 topps clemente and sent it to psa, it came back miscut. I couldn't find a problem so I sent it back, miscut again. Still couldn't find it, somebody here said it wasn't cut "square". Not so much a tilt or o/c but more of a diamond cut.

I finally sent it to beckett, can't remember if it is a BVG 7 or BVG 8 but it's holdered and that was all I wanted.

I think Tony is right. He's pretty sharp and has a good eye.

  • Actually, since seeing the back, it does appear that the right side border (Looking from the back),
does have a bit of a "ROUNDED" cut. Believe me, I miss this as much as anyone. I try to check
stuff over before submitting, but, it seems on larger deals of 50 or more cards, I always miss
    something.

It does still have the "DIAMOND CUT" as I mentioned as well looking at the back at the left
side. See how it narrows top to bottom? That is another cause for not grading it.

  • Thanks Tony,
I always welcome your opinion and of the 40 cards I sent into PSA I had 3 not holdered. I now believe they were correct on all three. I am impressed with their (PSA) due dilagence. This also gives me more confidence when purchasing a card graded by them.
