Pujols HR streak ends but.......

The homer was his 30th of the season and 280th of his career, making him the only player in major league history to hit 30 or more homers in each of his first seven seasons.

not too shabby.....even more amazing is that Pujols is in line to have 590 AT-bats----the same number of at bats he had 5 years in a row (within1)

this man's consistency is unrivaled in baseball, now or ever!

  • Hope he gets at least 17 more RBI to keep his 100 RBI seasons streak alive as well.
  • very true! that would be amazing considering the derth of talent that batted ahead of him this year...

I will start this with a caveat - if he stays hot and if the Cardinals stay in it until the end, he could end up being the MVP. He's not quite there yet, but he could get there.

As a Frank Thomas fan, I can't help but have a slight desire to see him hit no more than 99 RBI. Sort of. At the same time, it's a great thing.

  • I think Pujols only gets serious consideration for MVP if the Cards make the playoffs (or come DAMN close)

Wow, that is amazing that Pujols had between 590 and 592 at bats his first 5 years in the league. I've often said that he's as consistent as he is talented, but that stat surprised even me.

It reminds me of Vinny Castilla's '96 and '97 seasons:

    1996 .304 - 40 HR - 113 RBI - 97 R
    1997 .304 - 40 HR - 113 RBI - 94 R

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

The MVP should come down to the following, no?

    Jose Reyes
    Albert Pujols
    Prince Fielder
    Chipper Jones
    Hanley Ramirez (stats are unbelievable)
    Matt Holliday
    Eric Byrnes (yes, Eric Byrnes)

    Did I miss anyone?

Edited to say: Chase Utley would have been a frontrunner if he didn't get hurt...
  • What about Prince Fielder, especially is the Brewers make the playoffs?
I'd even give Brandon Webb some votes.
  • unfortunately, baseball MVP voters are some of the dumbest people around....your team making the playoffs SHOULD COUNT but obviously it doesnt....

how else would you explain Howard winning MVP last year when he batted .250 with RISP and his team missed the playoffs by 1 game? that stat is all you need HE WAS NOT VALUABLE ENOUGH WHEN IT COUNTED AND HE BATTED 80 POINTS BELOW HIS AVERAGE WHEN IT COUNTED--thereby causing his team to miss playoffs by 1 game....

Pujols on the other hand batted .414 with RISP and carried his team literally to the playoffs with a final week HR that won the only game the cards won that final week to limp in....

Hopefully writers realized their mistake when they saw the Cardinals win the Series and they realized how Valuable PUJOLS was to his TEAM to get them there and carry them..

WRITERS LISTEN UP : ITS THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, not the player with the most HR and RBI...i swear they vote like second graders ....

anyone who knows baseball knows Pujols carried the team LIKE HE DID THIS YEAR.....

Pujols didnt have ROLLINS, UTLEY, ABREU in front of him....

I'm extremely bias, but I always think back to the season Giambi beat Thomas out. That was a blow, especially since steroid use has come to light.

Uhm what about a guy who keeps his team in the playoff hunt all year, when they had no business being in it? Howard deserved the MVP last year...I'll quote Mike Alstott to Warrick Dunn 'Just let it go little buddy, let it go'.

Carried his team to 2 games over .500? Impressive.

But yet you want to talk about how Pujols is the first player with 30+ HRs in his first 7 years...either HRs matter or they don't...you can't have it both ways.

heh don't you remember Abreu being dealt last year? Or did you forget that?

Ryan Howard has been blistering for the last couple months. If the Phils get through, and the Brewers fade, he could make it 2 in a row. But Prince is hot again and they do seem to like voting for different people each year, especially if it's part of a new generation.

imagine where they would have been without him....and you did see him win the Cards last regular season win with that HR ?

HRs matter, i said just because someone has the most HR's does not automatically make them the MVP....

<< <i>heh don't you remember Abreu being dealt last year? Or did you forget that? >>

half the season he was on the team still...

your new nickname..MAD POSTER....are you trying to be the fastest to 10,000

tip: high number of posts does not give you credibility here...that is how past scammers have operated...
  • Either HRs matter for determining the MVP, or they don't. You can't have it both ways.

Howard was as important to his team as anyone in the NL last year...take Howard off the Phillies, there's no way that team even sniffs the playoffs. And that is why he was awarded the MVP.
