Yankee and Red Sox Fans: Favorite (Cough, Choke) and Hated Players on Opposing Team

I thought this would be fun. I love big Papi and I wish he was on my team. I like Wakefield too and wouldn't mind him in pinstripes also. Manny, well, Manny is just being Manny and he often makes me laugh. I liked Damon when he was on the Red Sox so him coming to the Yankees was easy, but it was weird. For some reason I never liked Varitek. Didn't like Trot Nixon when he was on the team either. For some reason they remind me of punks. Oh, and Schilling, never liked his pompous act. Not that I hate him but Lowell looks a lot like Sadam Hussein. LOL

P.S. Non Yankee and Red Sox fans need not respond.

Love Matsui, Jeter, Rivera. Warming up to Posada and Cano. All of these guys play hard and remind me of the pre-buying spree championship teams which I had great respect for.

Don't care for Abreu, ARod, or any starting pitchers (all of whom I actually dislike, except for Hughes who is fun to watch).

edit: Almost forgot about that Donkey Farnsworth! Hated him on the Cubs, actually a guilty pleasure to watch him on the yankees (sort of like hoping bad things happen to your rivals).

  • I used to hate Pedro when he was on the Red Sox but he kind of grew on me with his little friend Nelson. I thought he was a character like Manny. I thought Damon's Jesus look was pretty cool and Damon always seemed like a really nice guy even when he was on the Sox.

  • Funny you mention Trot Nixon as a guy you didn't like - he was always one I respected for his hustle & ability to get the big hit. Anyone remember that game from 2000 Rocket vs. Pedro @ The Stadium when Trot hit that HR to beat Clemens? Also liked Brian Daubach (sp?) Gotta respect Manny & Papi...I think Schilling is over-rated, but cannot discount his performance in 2001 & 2004 postseason.

Guys I don't like on the Yankees? Remember Deon Sanders? How about Kevin Brown? Also, all the Chuck Knoblauch jokes got old after awhle, but he did get hits for us. Carl Pavano for being a big P.O.S. Also don't care much for Giambi or Sheff as they are cheaters, but must say of all the guys to get painted with the steroid brush Giambi by far has handled it the best.

Great idea for a thread BTW!!

    Hate Jeter's smirk, like Matsui,
  • As far as the Yankees, didn't like Kevin Brown or not found of Randy Johnson also. I tried to like Pavano but his hurt act finally got to me. I wish they had traded him at the beginning of the year when they had the opportunity.

That is what I love about this 2007 team. Along with Cano, Wong, and Melky the Yankees bought up some home grown young guys such as Duncan, Joba, and Hughes who are contributing big. I love that the Yankees are going with some youth.

    Great thread!

I like and respect Jeter and Posada. I dislike ( in a major way ) Clemens and Arod. The rest of the Yankee squad is not a bad group of guys and I dont have anything against them other than they are currently in pinstripes.

I remember that game fondly. One of the best games I've ever watched and I'm not just saying that because the Red Sox won.

I loved Giambi before he became a Yankee. I hate Jeter, but mostly because he's such a big contributor to the Yankees' success. I like Hideki Matsui because he's on my fantasy team. Oh, and that Johny Damon guy . . . he's dead to me (just like his arm is for the Yankees).

Can't stand Posada...not sure why, probably just because he's a Yankee.

hate Damon, liar. How's the shoulder?
hate Jeter, wish he was on my team. Awesome player.
hate Arod, maybe he can be on the Red Sox next year if the Sox are smart enough to find a way out of the Lugo deal.
Matsui is one of the finest players in the AL. Can't hate that man. Hard-nosed player, no ego as far as I'm concerned.
    Clemens, gotta hate the part-timer.
Torre is the best manager I've seen over the last 20 years.
Cano I really can't hate. He's good, he's young, he is full of potential. I'm looking for a reason to hate him, don't have one yet.
Posada I detest. He sucks. He kills the Sox. Catchers are easier to hate. I hated Thurman Munson too, no shock there.
I really like Pavano, wish the Yankees had more people like him.
I love Mariano Rivera. Thanks, Mariano. Couldn't have done it in 04 without you. Plus, he's the best evah!

I'm sure there are more to list, but this will do for now.

Schilling is one heck of a pitcher. I do not agree with his politics, but he is one great pitcher!! Gutsy, skilled and strong.

  • I am not a Red Sox fan, but I did cheer for them in 2004...I work down the street from Fenway, and the mood in the city was Grim after losing the first few games in the playoffs to the Yankees. After their amazing comeback I had to respect them (at least for that season) I always enjoyed watching Damon play, though after he bailed and went to NY I lost my respect for him. I thought the real hero in 2004 was Derrick Lowe; he really stepped up when the pressure was on.

I'm still in awe of David Ortiz, when he comes up to the plate the crowd buzzes and surges like nothing I had experienced. If i was on the mound, I would have felt butterflies; simply amazing the past couple of seasons. It's too bad he is hobbled and injured this year, but it shouldnt take away from what he has done.

On this years squad my favorite player is easily Dustin Pedroia. plays all out, a true dirt dog. hustles, rarely strikes out, has improved his defense and after a god awful start is in the top 10 in batting and could very well win Rookie of the year.

The only sox player i "hate" is schilling... he's got a big mouth these days. I also think that Manny is lazy; just not what I expect from a ballplayer, especially one making a gazillion bucks.

Sorry, just had to state my own stuff even though it's not Yankees/Red Sox.

Being a Dodger fan, I was brought up hating the Giants. I remember on the last day of the season (can't recall the year, but during the 80's) that we lost a shot to move onto the playoffs to a loss against the Giants. They were celebrating like they won the world series....b@stards! Home run to beat us. image

Also, I always disliked (but respected) Jack Clark because of the home run that he hit off of Tom Niedenfuer ('85, I believe) to knock us out of the playoffs.

I guess I should add this, upon further reflection:

at one time or another, I pretty much hate everyone on the Red Sox, except for JD Blew, Julio Luso, and Eric Gagme -- I hate them all the time.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,658 ✭✭✭✭✭
Oh I guess I forgot to add another name to my list of RED SOX players I hate, JD DREW without a doubt. And Schilling is a big mouth, BUT if Schilling is winning games for us then I will lety his fat mouth slide.

he sucks lately, so I hate him. Let him play for the D-Rays.
  • you shouldnt hate "Nancy" Drew. She is fragile, delicate flower lol.
You should hate THEO for going after this clown and paying him stupid money for sub-standard production.

Well I am very angry at Theo because of this but since he was the architect of our 2004 team I can forgive him for his momenary lapse of reason.
  • I have always hated.....yes, I do mean HATE THE YANKEES....but I loved watching Goose Gossage pitch. He is was and will always be a stud player in my book! I can repsect the player and hate hate hate the team and the devil reincarnated owner.

I am right there with ya brother!!! Really didn't like Paul O'Neill either. Completely detest Sheffield - still.

Lots of respect (but no love) for Matsui he kills the Sox....same for Jeter he is the definition of intangible........Love him or hate him - ARod catches far too much flack (it's all about the $$$$$). Melky is going to be a quality jankee he supplanted the traitor damon in center. Moose is kinda full of himself - although I gotta admit - not as much as schilling. After 04 how can I not give Mariano lots of love - remember the standing "O" he got at the 05 ring ceremony at Fenway on opening day? That was classic!!!

I was there at opening day. Grown men were crying. It's up there in the top ten days of my life and surely is #1 event not involving family.

I like the REAL home grown Yankees -- Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettite, Cano, and Melky. Matsui is OK. I can't stand the overpaid hired guns, including Clemens, Pay-Rod, Giambigiant, Abreau, and Demon. And Torre is the best manager in baseball.

Aack in 1977 I really HATED Reggie Jackson, but I think he is OK now.

Annoucers: I like Singleton and Murcer, Leiter is OK (but should be doing the Mets), don't hate Kay, but he acts like an idiot (but is a genius compared to Joe Morgan), can't stand the radio announcers (Suzy "I love Roger" Waldman, and Mr. "A-Bomb for A-Rod" image )

I completely 100% agree. They might be the worst broadcast team in the game. Bltch brings absolutely nothing to the broadcast - and if I have to hear her climax one more time on the radio (OMG, Roger Clemens is coming back to the yankees) I am going to start drinking very heavily!!

I can't stand Singleton. He is major league booorrring! Plus he never even played for the Yankees, he played for one of our rivals! WTF

I'm sick of Suzy also. Remember her on T.V. - Blechhh!
  • I believe Singleton grew up in Westchester County, NY though. Would have loved for him to be a Yankee in his prime.

this is an easy one. Indians (my team) didn't win a game against the Yankees this year....so I have this large dislike for the Yankees. However that said I hope they meet in the playoffs so payback can be sweet!!

I disagree with you my friend, I'd love to see the Tribe win the central and the jankees miss the playoffs all together!!
