Something I have noticed and I would love some feedback please...

I stopped collection in 1990 and just this year got back into collecting baseball cards. Now that I am back in the hobby I realize that Graded cards sell for a hell of a lot. Depending on the year, player, condition and more aspects regarding the card. Buying high graded cards individually can be very expensive and sending them in along with the high grade commons as well. Now I know what the prices go for for getting cards graded by psa including shipping fees back and forth. I also know over the last thirty years high grade vintage is a great investment. I visit tons of websites and ebay and know that high grade vintage sells and holds its value. Ok here is what I am very troubled by. I notice every so often that people offer lots ( 100 or more) of psa graded cards for sale. For instance the one for the 1964 and the recent one for the 1975. I am just using them as examples but they are exactly what I am talking about. If you were to buy them for their buy it now price that is even a steal but some are even getting the lots for cheaper. Why is it that the cards are not holding the value when sold in lots? I know that your getting a great deal because you are spending a few grand in one shot but I mean if you really think about its a steal! You are saving thousands of dollars by buying a lot like that don't you agree? It just seems to me that the vintage psa sold in lots are not holding their value or? I know this might of came out wrong or confusing to some but I hope some of you understand what I am talking about. I would love your input about this.....

it all depends on what the set is.. just because it costs $5 to get a card graded, doesnt mean that the card will sell for $5 or is worth $5..

also, its just common for cards to sell cheaper in lots, because its more of a "wholesale" purchase than retail and you're able to move a lot of cards at once.. if you have time to sell individually, you'll usually come out with more profit, although you have to factor in ebay listing feels for listing 100 cards individually instead of in 1 group..

on a different twist, i go after 1952 topps high numbers and when they are for sale in groups, they seem to go for more $ than the cards would sell for if offered individually, sometimes considerably higher. i guess the deep pocket collectors will pay the premium to get the groups instead of spending their time buying individual cards. after all, i guess their time is more valuable than mine. so i does make sense after all.

I think you can apply the same theory of almost any card(s) sold in lots. One Bonds Fleer RC, ungraded may sell for $25, while 10 would sell for $225.

Commons....sell for 18 cents each, but a set-the stars plus the commons sell for a discount. Why? Who needs 17 Tracy Jones rookies? The Bonds, Larkins et all are a easy sell but the other guys are a bit Tuff. 1950's Topps are an exception...............
