-Former New York Giants receiver Mark Ingram is accused of breaking into a garage and stealing a purse from a car.
Genessee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Friday that his office issued an arrest warrant charging Ingram with a felony count of breaking and entering of a building and a misdemeanor larceny charge. The purse, which contained some cash and credit cards, was reported stolen in December in Grand Blanc Township near Flint.
The 41-year-old Ingram turned himself in Thursday at 67th District Court and was arraigned by Judge Christopher R. Odette, said Dena Altheide, director of court operations. Odette released Ingram on a $10,000 personal-recognizance bond.
A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Aug. 24 and a preliminary examination was set for Aug. 29, both before Judge Larry J. Stecco, Altheide said.
She said the court has a Flint address for Ingram. No telephone listing in Flint under his name is listed, so he could not be reached for comment. He told the court that he was in the process of retaining a lawyer.
Ingram faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years if convicted of the breaking and entering charge. Investigators found fingerprints at the crime scene that matched Ingram's prints, Leyton said.
Ingram was sentenced to a year in jail in October 2004 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor for stealing a credit card from a Flint-area golf course. In exchange, Leyton dismissed a felony fraud charge and a charge that he stole a club from the course.
In July 2001, Ingram was sentenced in a Miami federal courtroom to six months in federal prison for getting caught with $3,290 in counterfeit cash during a police sting targeting a stolen vehicle.
The Giants took the Flint native and former Michigan State star as the 28th overall pick in the 1987 draft. He also played for Miami, Green Bay and Philadelphia, retiring after the 1996 season
