5 days after my auctions end...

I send messages saying " Just a reminder that you have yet to acknowledge winning this auction. Thanks - Mike" to the 3 that have yet to contact me or pay and 1 jackass decides
to come back with this "WHY DO I HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I WON THE AUCTION? I GET 4 NOTICES OF IT. ALL I HAVE TO DO IS PAY"

Now this is the same guy I complained about a couple months ago that ignored me for a week and then send an e-check that took 3 more weeks to clear"

Why oh why did I let him bid again?

Is there a time frame when payment is due in your auctions?
  • I always make sure to inform the bidders in the auction description that payment is PayPal only and how soon after the auction the payment is due. Fortunately I'm yet to have a problem.

nope but it is an ebay policy that buyers and sellers to contact each other within 3 business days.

I'm not really concerned with when I'll get paid, just bugs me that people completely ignore you after the auction ends.

I always make sure I have enough money in my account when I'm bidding and either pay right away or let them know when I'll be paying - common courtesy

I agree with everything you said but people are just dumb or they just dont care. Probably both though image

I always put "payment due in 7 days" just so they can see that and have no excuse.

I'll have that disclaimer in there from now on.

Funny, he just sent me another e-check through paypal. Wonder how long it'll take to clear this time. Last time the expected clear date changed 3 times before it actually cleared on a $20 item.

One of the others I sent a reminder to just payed also. That place is a card store. Probably busy and forgot but didn't have a message, just the dough.

I'll bet the last one uses the "away on business"

I don't ever acknowledge anything when I win an auction. I do the checkout if they have it and I pay within their guidelines. Aside from that, we don't need to communicate as far as I'm concerned. If I pay within your guidelines, and you can ship within the same timeframe, good enough for me. The only time I expect the seller to communicate (or a buyer if I'm the seller) is if there is going to be a delay or some kind of a problem. Other than that, I get enough emails.

    Ditto that JT.

If someone goes out of their way to say "I shipped your card" I usually respond with, thank you, Ill let you know when it arrives. I think its just being a decent person. Other than that, its all automatic.

If you buy a candy bar at a grocery store, walk up to the checker, set it down, hand them a buck, they ring it, hand you your change, you pick up the candy and walk out. The rest is filler.

Guess I have too much time on my hands.

I thank people for placing the winning bid, thank them for paying after they pay, tell them I'll ship it next business day, and tell them I shipped it after it shipped. Maybe I should stop spamming their mailbox image

I use the phrase "acknowledged winning the auction" rather than "you haven't paid yet or mentioned when you might - what's the deal" cause to me, it's a bit friendlier. Should I wait 2 weeks before reminding them?
Don't tell me that if someone's auction says "payment due within 7 days" that you wait till the 7th day to pay?

Since mine didn't give a timeframe would that mean a month is acceptable?

with this guy, his e-check is set to clear on August 22nd (12 days after the auction ended)

eChecks are lame. Maybe he's a young feller and doesn't have a CC? I had a couple eChecks go through once when I sent payment. I didn't realize my CC had expired and I hadn't updated it so that's why PayPal did that.

    Here is what I do:

When I sell, they get an invoice via ebay if I'm on ebay at the time, otherwise they always get an invoice and a request to checkout via auctiva. They don't have to do that, but they get the invoice either way. I always update the "payment received" icon on the auctions if they sent a money order (I usually send a quick note as well) and when I ship the item I mark the "shipped" icon as well. If they send me an email, I always reply. Usually within a couple hours. I specify that payment is due in 7 days. After 10 days without communication or payment I send a payment reminder. After 14 days I send a personal note asking if there is a problem. If I still haven't heard, I file the unpaid item claim and see how that works. I send another email from that on day 21 and on day 23 I file the claim and move on.

When I buy: I usually pay within minutes of winning the auction. If they only take MO/Check and not paypal, I send a note saying when I plan to send payment. Sometimes I buy stuff on "credit". That is, if they have a 10 day payment policy and I get paid next Friday (8 days from now) I'll win the item and pay on day 8. Sometimes I send a note saying "I'll be paying next Friday" other times I don't. Depends on the seller (With 4SC I do this all the time) it also depends on the communication from the seller.

    Just my .02

You do what works for you. I just think it's a little harsh to harrass a guy at 5 days. YOur email sounds trite in my opinion. A "softer" way to put it would be to let them know you haven't seen payment and to let you know if there are any problems. Personally, as I've stated, I wouldn't send that message til day 7 at the earliest. I do it on day 10.
  • There is no such policy with Ebay regarding contact within 3 days. Ebay used to recommend that, but never enforced it. On Ebay a buyer has 7 days to pay.

You can also block E-checks through paypal it is the only form of Paypal payment you are allowed to block on Ebay aside from unconfirmed addresses
  • zep33zep33 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭
I didn't see that as harassing, but maybe you guys do. Didn't mean to harass they guy, just wanted to remind him (them). Probably should have waited a week though like you said.
    thanks for the tips

this guy's still a jerk though. I just looked up the last time I dealt with him. Auction ended june 10th, payment cleared July 5th
with not a word said by him, the clear date changed 3 times along the way. No apologies or excuses. Just not the way I would have handled it as a buyer.

Just put in your winning bidder email:

Please respond to this email with your name and mailing address so that I can have your card ready to ship once the funds have cleared.

    That usually works for me.

as time wore on when I was selling my dad's stuff....I grew more and more tired of lazy jackasses that couldn't follow simple instructions.

It got to the point where I wouldn't hesitate to just block them.

So, just block them and you'll be happier.
  • echecks take 4 to 5 days
if they mail payment it takes 3 to 8 days
    paypal is instant

I give all buyers 7 days before I send a reminder
then I wait another 7 days then I file a NPB claim
after that I send a c-4 bomb to their house and then I give them a NEG.

I hate buyers that think I should talk to them after 24 hrs of auction ending,
I think most sellers are happy as long as you pay within 7 to 10 days.
I love being paid within 48 hrs but it will not happen every time
this last week sold 42 items got paid for 40 within 48 hrs I was happy the other two, I am still waiting No big deal as I just doubled up and drank 2 double shots of crown royal and 2 hits of double barrel purple microdot and as the Beatles would say " I Feel Fine "

If this does not work I kill the dog and their first born but i am a nice guy my real name is francis and I will kill u if u touch me
