1894-O $5 NGC AU-55 Mintage of only 16,000. Nice, original surfaces... fiery orange coloration, although not picked up well w/the lighting used in the pics. The coin does have a small grease stain in the alloy, as made just above the date. Asking $550, includes shipping via USPS Registered/Insured mail. Haven't heard of the 51-O? Many, including me, believe that it's a restrike over an old New Orleans seated dollar (IMHO).

Agree with Speety. Believe the '51-O is a restrike over a '50-O. Either way, the '50-O is the rarest New Orleans regular issue dollar, whether Seated Lib or Morgan design.

It's not a matter of whether the 1851-O exists or not... it does exist. It's a matter of how it was made, whether it was a special presentation piece made at the New Orleans mint, or a mint employee effaced the "0" from an 1850 obverse die, cut a "1" into it, and struck a specimen by that means. The coin exists, and as I recall, was part of a major auction several years ago... perhaps as many as 10 years ago. The auction company's catalog had pics of the coin with a full page or two dedicated to the coin & its story.
