NGC Registry

I checked out the NGC registry. You guys were upset about possible leasing/cheating with the cert. numbers right? Well at NGC you must send your coins in to prove that you own them and to get them registered in the registry. Not only that, they make an image of your coin so that everyone can see what it actually looks like. This public showing of all coins may keep collectors from just buying the holder instead of the coin. I mean, who wants a butt ugly coin in their registry set if everyone will be able to see it? The bad news is that NGC charges a fee of $3 per coin to do this. I know its NGC, and you guys are PCGS enthusiasts, but I think its the best way to make a registry "honest".

This is an example of "it's not what they say, it's what they do!" NGC has some great plans for the future supposedly, but right now they are just trying to get their registry started. ALL PCGS & NGC coins are welcome. If you register a PCGS coin they gladly accept it even without proof. Take a look at the number of sets registered in the NGC registry. It is a joke right now.
  • Hi Steve. Im not putting NGC on a pedestal by any means. Im just saying that their "idea" is a good one. I know PCGS doesnt want to follow anyones lead, but in this case, I think they should. It suprises me after reading all these threads, that nobody else has brought this up.
  • buffalo, that was NGC's original plan. You had to join at $99, then ship coins at $3/per. Since nobody did that they had to change. You can now join and enter cert numbers for free, so can list your set easily. I believe they still offer imaging at $3/per. Since they made this change many sets have been registered there. NGC has only been doing registries for a short time so we should give them some time to attract more sets. I guess the first thing they should do is update their web site image

Please see Madmikes post in "The Numerical Rank..." thread for why
no one wants to send their set(s) away.

  • SORRY Buffalo THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!! I send all my slab #'S to DENA on a faxed piece of paper and she Registered them. 6 registry sets in all. Since then with there grading standers Mostly crossovers I have canclled all my NGC registry sets. NGC standards change day to day.
    Thanks Rick Stewart Collections
  • Ricky, read Steve's post above, he already clarified that. Then read my post under it about the "idea" of it.image

Keep trying buff, You'll get it sooner or later. image
I've got some coins in the NGC registry. I see no reason to enjoy it.

Hey Buff: Not sticking up for either Registry but almost all of My PCGS coins are in My NGC set also, and all I did was send them the Numbers, they Did Not see the coins. No added security that I can see, probably less. Also No Forumns to read all of this FINE material on. Really right at the moment NGC is VERY BORING. All of the mentioned good stuff mentioned and it only cost me $99.00 because I entered early then they changed the RULES.imageimage
  • Hey Fairlane. Steve said the same thing at the top of this post. NGC doesnt verify them by sending them in, like the website says. I realize this, BUT I just thought it sounded like a good IDEA to do this since everyone was upset with the leasing/non-ownership thing. I was not saying that NGC was better or that there entire registry program was better. Are the posts at the top not showing up or something? sheesh
  • Yeah, they're showing up- giving all of us a first hand knowledge of how little you know about the NGC Registry. Thanks for sharing that insight with us.

    Careful. You're on thin ice.
You may be sentenced to the Testing Forum for two days of "practice posts", with keen attention to "purpose".
    What DO you collect? image
  • Sorry Fairlaneman. That 'sheesh' comment just got to me...

...with one more 'e', it would have been picked up by the 'Censored Words Program'. I see that we have another word to add to the program. I'm sure it'll be taken care of first thing, when doors open tomorrow, I promise. image
  • Spooly? Would you please start a poll? We need to know if 'sheesh' should continue to be a proper form of expressing unsatisfaction and/or distain on this forum.
I'd had to banish this term if the majority find it useful RC.
