Obviously what Imus said was foolish, but enough already. This woman could walk past me at the mall, and I wouldn't know her from anyone else. It's not like people are pointing at her everywhere she goes and calling her names. If she doesn't make the connection herself, no one would even place her on the basketball team. And even then, no one with any intelligence thought what Imus said was anything more than an off-the-cuff joke gone bad. He shouldn't have said it, but there is no way any long-term permanent damage was done to those women.

Broadcasting on our airwaves is a privilege, not a right!
I saw an interview with the gal's lawyer on CNN last night. As you would expect he is a typical shark, claiming it wasn't about money but all about restoring her and her teammates reputations. How ridiculous is that, all the publicity got them recognized and lots of sympathy and Imus had the guts to not only meet with them and apologize, but sat done with Sharpton and took his shots. How many of us would have done that.
On a side note its been reported he is working out a deal with wabc and has settled with CBS. As I am want to say if you don't know what despicable things you are capable, then you don't really know yourself.
<< <i>I think that all broadcasters should get together and ban Imus from ever holding a job in radio again, similar to how some people feel Vick should never be allowed to step on a NFL field again. Imus was found guilty in the court of public opinion of racist comments >>
vick is possibly a criminal and inhumane person that profited from the physical torture of animals for entertainment purposes..
don imus said something stupid..
great comparison.
<< <i>I think that all broadcasters should get together and ban Imus from ever holding a job in radio again, similar to how some people feel Vick should never be allowed to step on a NFL field again. Imus was found guilty in the court of public opinion of racist comments, of defamation, and he was rightfully fired for his comments. Keep in mind this isn't the first time he was racially insensitive and showed his true colors as a racist.

Are you kidding me? I know you have been defending Vick since day one but I believed that it was just so you could get some good argument time in that you so love, but this is ridiculas! The difference here is Imus made a foolish comment, faced the music and apoligized, and took a financial hit. Vick ( if found guilty ) has not once owned up and admitted he was wrong and took part in something that can not be undone by apoligizing.
in any way?
It would be like someone trying to sue Mel Brooks for using the "N" word several times in Blazing Saddles.
<< <i>Comparing Imus calling someone a nappy headed ho to the allegations against Vick of fighting, torturing and executing dogs is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard your dumb a$$ say. >>
He's just saying that to be argumentative.. No one in their right mind would ever or could ever make it a legit comparison.
<< <i>Any responsible, level headed judge will dismiss this lawsuit in a heartbeat. Since he didn't name her specifically how could she be injured
in any way?

Good point and I think there's more as well...Courts look at public figures differently than "private people" and like it or not, these girls were public figures playing on TV and in front of thousands of people. So they are open to public opinion no matter how repugnant is that opinion. And an insult such as Imus gave by no legal means could possibly be "defamation of character."
What this girl sorry to say doesn't comprehend is she could use this event with Imus to her career advantage...Now with this basically frivilous lawsuit, people are going to be rooting for Imus and CBS to win, including me, because although I'm not anti-lawyer, I am anti-scumbag lawyer, and in my opinion this lawyer is a scumbag lawyer...and I hope this POS scumbag lawyer doesn't win a dime with this extortion through the legal system.
Hopefully now this girl isn't going to lose the sympathy of the public, and now be known as a someone trying to win some money through a frivilous lawsuit - Employers definitely don't like hiring people prone to filing lawsuits.

edit: spelling
Imus said, in complete jest, "Nappy headed hos". Sharpton and Jackson had their day and now it's over.
Yeah, great job calling me out, dope
<< <i>Vick brutally and viciously killed and made money off dogfighting. He should be banned for life but I'll be happy if he sits in a pen and off the field for several years.

Give me a break. This wasn't the first time Imus let his true racist colors fly...it wasn't said 'in jest', and I have to wonder if perhaps you don't share his racist views. Wanting Vick, a black man, banned for life from pursuing his life's work for breaking the law while a white man can freely spew hateful, racist remarks shows to me all I need to know about you being as big a racist as Imus is.

Now I'm a racist?
Well done!
I don't think there's anything in the Bill of Rights that gives citizens the right to hold a dog in the air before smashing its head into the concrete because it was too weak to be a profitable cage fighter.
<< <i>Just an example of a poster here saying a stupid thing and unwilling or unable to own up to it. I really believe he (stitzen) in not capable of losing an argument for to do so would show he's human. >>
Nope, simply proving how stupid it is to say that Vick should be banned for life from football, and it truly is a moronic statement to say because someone broke the law they should be forced from their line of work.

So the thousands of inmates in prisons across the country have been unjustly forced from their careers just because they broke the law? Isn't it within the right of the employer not to hire someone because of a criminal background? How is the NFL any different? It's just a job, and everyone has to meet the standards set forth by their employer.
i dont understand how such a proponent of free speech like yourself, can even begin to compare Imus and someone who physically tortures living creatures.. it just shows off your highly hypocritical and retarded ways..

racism has NOTHING to do with the stupid ass comparison you made. You're comparing free speech to criminal activity.
why do you hate free speech?
are you a communist?

I wasn't referring to the jail time he's set to serve for breaking the law, I was referring to stown's moronic assertion that the NFL should ban him for life for breaking the law. Also, if being convicted of a crime is grounds for banning someone for life, where's the outrage for the countless players who have been convicted?

<< <i>axtell, for you to be so angry at Don Imus is ridiculous, considering your support of NAMBLA and their right to free speech.. >>
Imus can say whatever the hell he wants...I was simply pointing out how ridiculous it is to call for Vick to be banned for life. I don't think either guy (Vick or Imus) should be artifically prevented from gaining employment from anyone who wants to hire them (and suffer the negative PR that will surely follow).
The more you spew, the bigger of an idiot you are (which I didn't think was possible).
<< <i>Yeah, smoking dope is just the same as abusing countless dogs all in the name of gambling.

Who said anything about smoking dope? I was speaking to lawbreakers in general...isn't the breaking of laws and the image of the league what you are pretending to care most about?
<< <i>Axtell has some weed? >>
it would actually make her think more clearly and with a more open mind about the world..
<< <i>Axtell has some weed? >>
Sorry my favorite weed, Aurora Borealis, is now extinct....my boy Vinny Chase supposedly has some, though.
<< <i>Axtell has some weed? >>
That gives pot smokers a bad name.

I think if that were the case Ax would have a hard case of the Folsom Prison Blues.
Sorry that wasn't more abundantly clear.
<< <i>I was speaking in jest comparing Imus' wrongdoings and comparing them to Vick's, to project just how ridiculous stown's assertions that Vick should be banned for life.

Translated:
I got my arse handed to me and look to be a complete and utter fool. Rather than admitting how stupid my BS sounded, I'll play it off like I've been joking the entire time.
Yeah, that's the ticket!
But then, when you share racist views with Imus, you are going to miss that.
<< <i> It never ceases to amaze me! Stitzen aka Ax fighting on multiple fronts! How many threads have you been fighting in off and on today? 3 ? 4 ? >>
Who's fighting? Simply debating that Vick has the right to a life in the NFL after serving his time in jail and his one year suspension. He doesn't deserve to be banned for life just like Imus doesn't deserve to be banned for life for his comments. If an NFL team wants to hire Vick when he gets out, then they should be allowed to make that decision, just like any broadcaster who wants to hire Imus. Both entities will have a lot of fallout on the hiring of both, but both men should be allowed to make their livings.
<< <i>Playing in the NFL is a privledge not a right. Sorry but it is true >>
Some people just won't ever get it, regardless of how much you pound it in their head.
<< <i>Playing in the NFL is a privledge not a right. Sorry but it is true >>
Yes, and conviction of a crime doesn't preclude you that priviledge. Ask the countless NBA, MLB, and NFL players who have been convicted of a crime yet are still allowed to follow their chosen careers.
<< <i>ask steve howe and his line of coke, hes probably around somewhere working at mcdonalds ,he only got caught 7 or 8 times ,finally got the boot >>
yeah he's actually kinda dead..
