Fake 1963 topps rose rookie?

I was close to purchasing the Rose PSA 8 rookie on an Ebay BIN for just under $1300 and had to check the certification number. You guessed it, no number found. The funny thing is the seller touts that it is real and directs you to psa to check it out. The item number for the auction is 230161637637. Just a heads up for anyone who was thinking about purchasing it. I would link it to this thread but I am still no computer whiz yet. The hunt still continues for the Rose..................

Fake flip. The font's all wrong.

Pretty funny. At least attempt to put a correct cert. # on it.
  • Wow, looking at that auction# you posted, my alarm bell is going off from the plastic sleeve surrounding the card. PSA doesn't sleeve standard sized cards, and their sleeve for undersized issues doesn't "warp" that much in the holder... if at all.

In fact--HEY!!--that sleeve and card are ON TOP of that holder! Jeez!

Plus, 90076713 doesn't return a record in the PSA database.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Nice catch, I was looking at his 56 Mantle and thought it seemed a little bit fishy. This little disclaimer doesn't help either:

<< <i>Please note that I am not currently accepting PayPal as a form of payment. I was recently selling a gun collection and had set up to take PayPal payments for the auctions. Little did I know that this violated their TOS and it resulted in my account be blocked. Therefore, I will be unable to take it as a method of payment. Thank you for your understanding. >>

It looks like the account has hardly been used since 2005. My guess is it was hacked. Hopefully nobody falls for this.

More fake crap "strait' from a sealed case, LOL!

    Fake 1984 Football Box

Edit: All these auctions are also 1-day auctions, definitely a hijacked account, or straight fraud by the seller. He should be locked up!

  • The cert he has listed is for a Mantle in nine, the picture has a different number, could be wrong picture? lol. The cert on 55 Bowman Mantle crosses to a 89 Upper Deck Griffey. Wow
  • Does PSA have a dog in this fight? Do they go after someone who is fraudently marketing their grading process? In the intrest of their business and marketability you would think they would be going after people who run these flips. If this becomes easier to do in the "high-tech age," this could be a serious problem not only for PSA but for all collectors. I wonder how many scumbags have the high tec equipment to burn off a PSA label, pull up a cert and slap it on a holder..........

He scammed two buyers on a 33 Goudey Ruth for $5,000 and a $4,000 card after selling a few >99 cent type crap auctions. No feedback in two years and now he hits the board runnin!!?? By the time these get to lawsuits he will be long gone.

The cases do not look frosted though. They are fake cards, but I wonder if the cases are cracked or what.

  • Call PSA for verification. Sometimes items aren't in their database............

never heard of any of that, is why they have the "other" section on there lol,i see tons of that stuff on ebay all the time, except drugs and guns lol-"payable to the order of ---- for crack $5,000"

p.s.- i asked him last night, no answer yet, dont expect to get one, maybe if we can get about 25 people to ask him that have been enlightened to his ways, hell go away!be funy to hear his explantations anyways, if he gives one,why would you put "you cna check the cert verification on the auctions" and then have them be wrong,he must think everyone is stupid or something!

  • This is one example of why the new ebay format sucks...can't e-mail high bidder to warn him
  • I emailed him yesterday and asked why certs dont match, no response.
  • I wouldn't bid or buy based on the feedback.
