What do you guys do with your thousands of common cards? Especially from the 90's...

I am no pro collector, but I have about 20,000 common cards from growing up. I have about gone through all of them and pulled my stars/semi-stars. I don't want to get rid of them b/c I see many PSA 10 commons going for decent money. My wife wants them out of the way. I've held her off as long as I can....almost. I still have tricks up my sleeves. What do you guys do with yours? I can give them to the local Goodwill or something, but what other tips do you all have?

  • I keep mine in a closet, in shrink wrap or cases, not to be opened in my lifetime. And, my fiancee is smart enough never to hassle me about them.

I shoot a lot of shotgun shells and I put the cards in the shotgun shell case boxes, about 1200 per. I pull the stars out but leave most of the semi-stars in. My wife sells them at her annual garage sale for $5 each and they are typically gobbled up the first hour she puts them out. I make space and she gets the $5...something about that doesn't add up but she never complains when I buy wax anymore....

Try calling your local school board and /or school and tell them you'd like to donate them to any teachers that would like to use them as incentives. Goodwill is a good choice also but they will sell them off for whatever they can get for them. Either way get a receipt and you can use fair market value to take off your taxes. Mike

  • Put about 25-40 cards in a team bag and give them away at Halloween , kids love that stuff. Besides it adds up quickly you can get rid of 500-2000 cards easy...............I like to do this when i have commons.
