this has been bothering me for years...

anybody here know why Rusty Staub (my favorite player growing up) does not have a regular issue 1972 or 1973 Topps card?? He was in the prime of his career and the only reason i can think of is that he had some sort of contract issue/dispute with Topps. Furthermore, can anyone here think of any other major players who were skipped over by Topps in a particular year for whatever reason? Earl Campbell post 1979 immediately comes to mind as he couldn't reach an agreement with Topps after 1979... Also there were no Joe namath cards post 1973.

Say hello to my little friend.

Maury Wills makes sense- in '59 Topps was signing minor leaguers that they thought had a chance at the majors. They passed on Wills, and he never forgot it. He had cards with Morrell, Post, and Fleer, but not Topps until '67 when litigation between Topps and Fleer got his contract assigned to Topps.

Tiant seemed pretty washed up by '72, and then made a huge comeback with the Sox. Topps probably figured he was done.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I have always wondered the same thing about Mike Marshall (the pitcher). I don't think he had a card after 77, even though he pitched a ton of games for the Twins in the late 70's.
