Please advise: 1984 Topps football rack packs vs box

I'm looking into purchasing either a box of 84 Topps Football or a couple of rack packs. I was just wondering what a box yields roughly in terms of Marino and Elway rookies? Also, are the rookie cards of these guys more likely, less likely or just as likely to appear in the rack packs vs the packs? I figured that since rack packs have 54 cards, it would roughly equal 4 packs, actually a little less than 4 packs. One final question, , is there any other advice you would give before spending the money on either rack packs or wax of this year? I appreciate any and all responses. I really have the urge to crack a box or some rack packs; however, not knowing the above info, I do not want to be taken. Thanks!

Rack packs can be searched. I'd only do a rack box from a sealed case. Also, stay away from grocery racks- terrible corners.

Pros and cons. Packs: (CON) unless you buy from a top notch seller aka Steve they may be searched. 2 cards may have problems aka wax gum stains or worse. Rack packs(PRO) These may be sequenced unless you buy from a top notch seller. see above. If not sequenced, these are you best bet for high grade cards. 3rd option Vending box(maybe) See top notch seller. Mike

Good luck with whichever you decide on. If you have any left overs, and looking to unload commons and dupes, please keep me in mind.

  • When you refer to Steve as being a standup seller of wax and racks, what Steve are you referring to? Is he an ebay seller and what's his id. Sorry, but being a newbie, I'm not up on who is who yet. Thanks.
  • Steve is from baseball card exchange, here is the link to his site.

Steve is a top notch seller, but one thing people always fail to mention here is that there is really no way for Steve (or anyone) to know if a box of rack packs has been searched - or, if you are only buying loose racks, if they came from a searched box.
