Has anyone been elected to a major sports Hall of Fame and THEN made a comeback?

I know several players have made comebacks (Jordan, Clemens, etc). Has anyone ever waited the 5 years to be elected to the Hall of Fame and THEN make a comeback?

None come to my mind, although that doesn't mean much.

    Guy Lafleur was elected to the HOF and then came back and played with the NY Rangers.

    Since, I am more interested in baseball, I must say - really?

    Did he ever pitch or just go to Spring Training?


    Edited to say - I went to Wikipedia and it answered my question. He just went to Spring Training.

    Jim Palmer has rosey cheeks. His "comeback" was basically him going into Spring Training for a few days and realizing he can't throw higher than 80. Not sure what he was thinking about.

    Didn't Gordie Howe play some Minor League hockey games a few years back in his 70s? I might have imagined this in my head.

    Gordie Howe signed a one day contract a few years ago to play a game on April 1st, 1997 for the Detroit Vipers. April Fools day, get it? He didn't play more than a few seconds.

    Guy LaFleur played 3 years after being elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He retired in the first place because he couldn't score anymore in the NHL. He played in semi-pro and beer leagues in Canada scoring 7-10 goals a night and after getting bored with the lack of competition decided to try a comeback. He scored two goals his first game back against Patrick Roy. Guess he should have been more patient the first time.

    I expect Rickey Henderson will be the first baseball player to play after being elected to the Hall. I expect the A's to give him a contract for a few September games the year after he gets elected.
    Learn some history of the game. Join a vintage base ball team in your area and get out there.

    He did not try to, he thought about it just so he could keep the rushing record, he hated Franco Harris for his running style (running out of bounds instead of taking on the tackler).

    Was A's fans can only wish that would happen...Rickey has stated repeatedly that all he wanted was a one day contract so he could retire as a major leaguer. Rickey grew up in Oakland and is in every way a "native son" to us.

    I've been an A's fan since they moved here in 1968 and probably will be always unless they or I move out of the Bay Area.

    After the Haas family sold the A's to Steve Schott and then he to Lewis Wolff things have gone downhill. Schott was a cheap SOB only interested in turning a profit (we had to endure watching Giambi and Tejada walk to free agency - Tejada wanted to stay here too) and Wolff is only interested in a new stadium deal so he can pad his pocket with millions. While GM Billy Beane has produced a series of winning teams through his "Moneyball" statistics-based management, and the team is deep in with talent in the whole farm system but the brand of baseball the team plays now is just excruciating to watch. Games last can 4 hours as the team focus is walks, singles and doubles. It's corporate baseball at its absolute worst.

    Neither of the two post-Haas owners and shown any interest in giving Rickey the respect he deserves and have stated so in the local media DESPITE the overwhelming support of A's fans everywhere to bring Rickey back one more time.
